Alright, I am now looking to splurge & buy a new set of bumper guards. Anyway, I was wondering if the models sold from vintage can accomodate over rider bars in the front. Any thoughts? I love the way they look, but I am thinking of adding the over rider bar eventually. Thanks in advance.

David,

Have you been cruising around the area? I've only seen one other speedster, and that was almost two years ago. It was a red one in Rye. Needed some suspension work from what I remembered, leaning heavily on the passenger side.

Maybe i'll see you around when I head north for the 4th - Mel
Putting the over-riders on a VS is a major PITA...in that you will have bumper support bracket problems with the extra brace support. The steel subframe creates a conflict and you will have some fabrication work to make it fit, that, IMHO is not worth the effort.

It has been awhile since I tackled that project (8-10 years for a buddy n less), maybe close to 10 years and the VS-JPS sub structure may have changed, but as I remember it, the juice is not worth the sqeeze.

The parts alone are 2,000 U$D worth...
Wow, that sounds like a job and a half. I love the way Dan's bar looks though. I'll have check with intermeccanica/stoddard & see what I can find out. Any other thoughts, please let me know. Hey Mel, I have been cruising around the area quite extensively. In fact I was in Purchase, but that was about 2 weeks ago. Let me know if you are going to cruise anytime soon, as I am only about 20 minutes North of Purchase.
David, if you want to do it then you need to buy the entire package from Intermeccanica. I spent months researching and looking for these things and it won't be easy without IM's help.

280 a piece is slightly more then Stoddards, but Stoddards won't order them or stock them until you order them, so it is pretty close.

Also you need to know that the original bars are impossible to find in good shape/useable shape. They were 28mm in diameter. Where they attach to the bumperette needs to be an original bumperette to use an original tube and it needs to be the overrider tube style bumperette, they are different. Where as a reproduction bumperette even from Stoddards is going to be for 25mm tube. Henry's tubes are 25mm and awesome.

What you need to understand from what people are saying is that the frame work holding your vintage bumper may be in the way of your new bumperettes.

If you really want them, I would call Henry and ask him if you send the bumpers to him if he would be willing to fit them for you. Yes it will cost you extra, but Henry's expertise is worth it!!!

Please email me if you have further questions as I have researched and searched these to death and can answer any other questions you may have.

Below is a picture of my 56 original single rear bar, don't even think about trying to find one of these....impossible!!!
Hey Steve,

Thanks for helping me out. I actually tried to send you an email, but it didn't go through for some reason. So basically vintage bumper guards are too short to accomodate the overrider bars. Intermeccanica's can, but they will interfere with the bumper mounting hardware? What about Stoddard? Do you know what the deal is with those? Also, do you think it would be possible to rig up the vintage guards to accomodate an overrider bar of some sort? Too bad about the single rear bar being so hard to find. That really looks good! Thanks for your help Steve, as well as all others!
stevenorkathy@aol.com get rid of the red part, should work, try it again and tell me if it still doesn't work?

Not only are vintage bumperettes too short, but the backside of the bumperettes from vintage don't have the area for the bar to physically attach to the bar.

Believe me there is only one good way to do this and that is to send the bumpers to Henry and pay for the correct hardware.

Stoddards bumperettes are the 25mm reproduction type, but you will need reproduction tubes like Henry's that are 25mm in diameter to match, so why not just buy the entire package from him. And even better would be to have him attach them to the bumper for you. This is a much more difficult task then you might think? In fact most people who try to do it themselves give up.

JPS is suppose to have something coming in late summer, but I wouldn't bet on it?

There really is no cheaper or different way to do it....you got to pay to play on this issue...LOL
