Ok gentlemen, I understand that the deco strip with the rubber insert is made of aluminium that clips onto the bumper but what are the bumpers themselves made of from VS please? Are the bumpers brackets and mounts the same as a VW?

The bumpers themselves are made of 3/16" fiberglass lay-ups and have the stopping power of a piece of box cardboard.
The bumper mounts are NOT the same as VW - while similar, they are different.
I suppose it's all about the look if that concerns you. Exact replica or outlaw. Now there's something to think about. Cheers Gordan
They certainly are not 5 mph bumpers
If you toss them just right they will fly at just about 5 mph. When they land, they may well break. I had one snap, I looked at it too hard.
http://vintagespeedsterparts.com/ has bumper brackets needed-
You can do this 911 look too -
...there went the pasta.
Trick question. Do speedster and beetle bumpers have the same basic arch to them and if so can I add the flat face on the top that follows the body line?

OR NOT!!!!
I know you're kidding Greg, but I wanted to make sure Don knew also. LOL
Until I saw this speedster I didn't even like Porsches. Now I'm bitten there is no turning back. Classic or outlaw. Leaning to classic.

I don't think VW chrome bumpers have right arch - maybe Karmann Ghia but they are rarer. Rich D (SE/Beck) took a creative approach in taking the optional aluminum over-riders and casting new ones without the bumper notch. These became his custom nerf bars. Do a search for his thread.

A lot of wide body owners don't mount the bumpers - you may find someone with a used pair here. They could cut in half and ship for a reasonable cost. Shipping uncut would incur costly oversize fee.
Cheers Wolfgang, I need so much stuff like windshield etc that size of the crate isn't going to mater to much as I'm dictated by the size of the screen. I'm waiting on customs clearance at the moment so when the car gets here I'll see what I need as far as brackets go and those diagrams may be much appreciated. From looking at the cmc build manual it's looking like mines probably a cmc from the give aways I've seen in pics so far.
Word must be spreading down under of this site - we've had a bunch of you folks on here lately.
Someone above mentioned that the VW bumper would follow a much different body line than a Speedster. Some of the replicas on here have duplicated the close-to-the-body look of the original 356's, and I think Carey Hines at Beck here in the US might be able to help you with that: carey@beckspeedster.com
He might be able to help with other parts and info, too.
Good luck, Don, and keep asking questions!
