Will, reports of my latch have been greatly exaggerated.

But since you asked, both front and rear latches were sticky when my car was delivered. I was able to free them up with some Tri-Flow and white lithium grease.

I think a bigger issue than not popping up enough is what to do when that rear trip wire snaps with the deck lid still latched - as it will some day. I know I'll regret not having worked out an emergency release, which I'm told is a lot easier to do while the primary wire is still working.

Sorry for blowing my wad.... I can't help but put grease on whatever I touch.

when I get home I will post some pics of the emergency release I Mcgivered for the front and rear lid latches. Again, both cheap simple wired reseases routed under each latch, to a spot under the car. ( had some bicycle brake lines & selves hanging around the garage I could re-purpose)

  • good times!

Emergency engine lid release mechanism?...As Lane just recently posted "we're off on another tangent"

I understand (but have never verified) that the front trunk lid latch on my VS can be tripped from underneath. Aaah, but the engine lid is a different story, and one that is a potential big bucket of angst...but here's a simple solution:  A short length of thin nylon fishing line sharing the same hole that the existing pull wire is attached through and secured with a 'Boy Scout' square knot...then, in a straight line, poked through a tiny drilled hole into the inside of the wheel well and tied to a washer or a key ring as a pull tab....Inelegant to be sure...but it only has to be used once!!!

Robert, yes, I sunk my own boat with that one!

Lfepardo, my apologies, you have a great idea (though be-smudged with red grease)

Mitch, how could I mistake your white car for Lfepardo's silver one? Ah yes, it was that 3rd Easy Jack (IPA) which is my pain remedy for a minor leg surgery sustained yesterday.

and Carl, I love your use of the word: inelegant. I didn't even know it existed until today, thanks!
