Hello.
Like this site, finally somewhere for speedster fans to get some info
on the lovely car.

I've been dreaming of this car since I was a kid, know I'm supposed
to be all grown up and thought it was time to own one myself.
Can not afford a real one so I am going for a replica, they are
supposed to be a better drive anyways...

I'v looked into the different developers and found that there are
many good once.
I live in Norway and we have very strict rules on car modification,
so there is not alot of replicas around in any form.
I find the best replicas must be the once built with a tubular
framework since they are stiffer and maybe more crash safe aswell.
But sadly that is not an option for me because of the rules here,
it would have to be registered as a "new" car and has to endure minimum 5 different crash tests, like a new car would.

So that leaves me with the beetle based once, and there is allready someone here in Norway that sort of takes orders for the JPS
workshop and do the work neccesary to get the Norwegian plates on.
That makes the JPS option for me an interresting one.

I allso read about the New Zealand company Platinum Speedsters,
and they look like they've got a good thing going aswell.

So basically, I'm wondering if someone has any Ideas on what I should
do, anyone in the same situation, any experience with either car or company could give me some guidance.

Actually any info on replica ownership would be nice.
Thanx
spine

WOW, you have a great opportunity to buy one used right now. Stan Galat has a JPS listed in the classifieds that is truly an exceptional car. You could get a JPS that is actually better then new and it would be a used car which should make things a lot easier for you to register. A used JPS doesn't come up very often and one of this caliber and options is never going to come up again.

This car has already been debugged and ready to drive....great opportunity to save some money and get exactly what your looking for without all the hassles of having one built.
Thanx for the tip Steven, that's a very nice speedster indeed!
Just not shure about the whole importing thing myself,
especially how to get it registered here, it's a paper shuffle
like you wont belive it!

But im looking into how to do it, still it would be best for me
if someone who knows the drill does it.

That's why this speedster shown on the JPS site is quite tempting.
It's here in Norway with plates and for sale.
www.jpskitcars.com/Gallery/source/bodyexterior.html
www.jpskitcars.com/Gallery/source/dscn0584.html

The asking price is 239,000 Nkr. Thats roughly 23,000
A little more info on the on the JPS speedster.
Price should be 37,419.49 USD, actually quite expensive when
compairing to the JPS site prices, off course I would have to ad
shipping and the different charges to get it into the
country, but still...hmmm
Well the car is full of goodies like hardtop, carrera sport
interior, leather seats, new 2110 engine 100hp, discs in front, alarm and its made in 2004.
(And he did say that the images from the JPS site is the actual car
they built for him.)
Norway! - drive it to work lots! Does it have a gas heater -- suspect you will need in Norway. Hardtop is nice - but does it still have the side curtains - if so they leak rain, cold, snow even with hard top although probably not as much as with a soft top. Hopefully you have another more winterized car? Realize the original speedster was designed for California weather. Yeah, you can dive it in Chicago or New York in the winter - but you wouldn't want to every day. Most put them up come winter and day dream for spring.
Well he said that these images is taken by JPS of his car after
production, so that this is the actual car.
But yeah I will ask him to take some pictures
of it himself, to be shure.

Yeah well I might not be using it the whole year around,
not on the coldest days of winter. :)

But when I look at the price (exchanged into usd) it is a bit steep...
And since I don't nececarily want a 100% original looking
speedster, I should be able to find one with a better price
in the US and import it myself.
I should have a good think about this again before spending my cash.

You know what!? You guys living over there where the speedsters are growing on trees, you should set up some sort of export company
where you would go around and check out speedsters for sale.
Note down the condition and price and put them up on a web site.
You would be someone a byer can trust and who has a genuin interest in the cars.
Be the middle man... :)
It would be such a comfort for an overseas byer to either just order it or to know what you are comming to look at.
It might not be the biggest buisniss, but who knows where it would end.
Baaah! who am I fooling, dream on...

Thanx for replying guys.
Lasse,
I know Vintage will check out a car for you if you can get the owner to bring it to their shop. I'm sure JPS will do the same. Intermec sometimes even sells used models.

Plus, most of us are willing to check out a car if it is near our house. Just one of the benefits of this site. Even better is, we sometimes know the car in question and have seen it previously.
