Henry's cool with you guys picking up the car. Don't forget your checkbook(s).
Yeah.....Really BIG, friggin checkbooks!!!!!
Really good for you, though, Marty.
I seriously believe that you're getting exactly the car that you want at a time in your life when you can truly enjoy it for years to come.
Congratulations!
He's not only getting exactly the car that he wants, but he's getting exactly the car that a lot of us want.
Agreed, Gordon and Lane.
I think Marty is going to be very happy with his rejuvenated SubieIM.
That thing will go like a scalded cat, but with all the creature comforts that such an esteemed gentleman in Marty's position in life most definitely demands and requires...ah, hem.
Carson, pour a cup, will you?
"Yes, M'Lord.....Will you be taking the Rolls to visit the Estate grounds today, Sir?"
... but of course.
Let them eat IDFs, Jeeves.

Marty, I had a conversation with the maker and his main tech guy regarding my car, and I mentioned your car and it seems that your car is a bullet and you'll not just have to change shoes but the gloves will have to be napa with kevlar so you can hang on to the steering wheel Ray

Forget the gloves. Marty and Jerry Rice use Stickum:
Marty, from what Ray said I would assume you'll need special underwear as well. I recommend nomex.
Marty,
This is good advice. Your family really needs you right now- two kids going into college, house and Florida condo payments, etc.
Better to just let me keep it safe for a while. I'll only take it out once a week or so, and put it away for you in the winter (I promise not to take the engine out). After you've cleared your responsibilities, you can come down and pick it up.
I will need some money to detail it every so often- I know how you like to keep things, and you know how bad the bugs are down here. I'll hold it for you for nothing, because that's the kind of friend I am.
Great news, Marty!
I am sure you are chomping at the bit to get your hands on the car - the wheel that is - and see if there really is a difference...
We will need detailed reports, you know.
I just checked the shots of your car - glad you have stainless steel brake hoses, as you'll need them.
Stan's offer is a nice one, but a car like that needs year-round use to keep the seal and gaskets lubricated. I can provide that as our Speedster season is 12 months long. Since Charleston is such a tourist spot you and Sandy can visit on occasion to drive the car. That's pretty hard to beat, isn't it?
Such nice offers from my SOC friends. I'll tell you what, you guys can come and visit me anytime you want and I'll let you drive the beast . Oh, and don't forget you'll be required to fully detail the car before it goes back under the car cover.
Great news, Marty!

Henry, apologized for keeping me carless this summer but based on his comments it sounds like I am getting back a completely different car (just looks the same).
Yes, I am sure it will be!
Keep in good with your local tire shop...
Marty it does take some time to do the necessary fabrication that our cars need if you want something that looks awesome and performs like a modern car, ie 911 front end, Turbo thrusters, and yours even comes with an apron, wow you'll be domesticated, Sandy will love it Ray
We really need to know which car is faster.
I'm willing to help you two guys find out. Henry can drive one car and I'll drive the other.
It really would be for the entire forum.
I'm very curious about the weight delta. Adding heavier engine, radiator, plumbing, heater core, wiring, & ECU. Losing full size spare, oil cooler, heater boxes, and breather box (mines pretty big). I know it will weigh more, but not how much.

I do not have the weight exactly but I would expect around 2200lbs for my 170hp subie. Having gone from 2110 145hp type one powerband to a subie the engine is quite torquey and there is no hesitation as with carburators. The weight for an impreza 2008 model for example is around 3064 lbs posting 0-60 times in 9.5secs, wrx models in 4.8 secs, that said Marty will be flying by us but then we should be in the 6's a very respectable number and good power to weight ratio without the jump to light speed feeling at every touch of the throttle. If you want the jump, you could change the throttle to a switch as Marty did, hence the father and son discussion on speed required by the maker Ray

I really need to find out the finished weight of my car. The 993 3.6 has 272 h.p., and with the Steve Wong chip that Henry installed, should be close to 290.
http://www.911chips.com/993chips.html
We needed the chip to go with the lightened flywheel.
I guess I'll find out in two weeks how it goes.

What are those single cab things?
I was thrillEd to get an extra 20 hp. Can't imagine getting another 120. Just remember no traction control and no abs. 300 hp without electronics. Be careful. Enjoy. And we need videos.
"Just remember no traction control and no abs. 300 hp without electronics. Be careful."
That is exactly what driving was meant to be.
The majority of the USofA has gotten soft when it comes to their driving skills and that is why we still have so many accidents. People are driving beyond their abilities because they think their car is going to get them out of trouble when trouble comes. We have blind spot monitoring, park assist, automatic braking, and probably a dozen other "new features" I've forgotten or didn't even know existed. All of it is making drivers lazy. You don't have to check your mirrors, pay attention, or park your own car.
Sure, cars are safer than they used to be when it comes to crashing, but people have forgotten how to drive. Take a simple poll and ask your friends how many of them can even parallel park anymore. Ask them which way to steer when the back of the car tries to pass the front of the car. Ask if it matters if they have front wheel drive or rear wheel drive (It certainly does). Ask them how to stop safely if a tire blows on the front/rear of the car. Chances are they won't have a clue.
An H6 3.0L subie 6 only weighs 75 lbs more than a 2.5L 4 and gives 250hp n/A it is barely bigger like 1 inch
There is A KGhia with one and you can see it moves maybe that is the next generation 356 power plant for subie guys
Marty, your car is going to just scream with that horsepower.
Are you sure you want your son to drive it?
Robert:
Your post is so accurate. How many people actually understand what happens when they put their foot on the brake pedal? Or any other 'mechanical' aspect of a car?
As long as their car has GPS, Bluetooth etc., and looks 'nice', that's all they need and understand to make a buying decision.
Parallel parking is not even part of a driving test anymore up here. So sad.

The DMV took it off the California Driving Test also. Very sad.
I think it's hilarious but I've actually had people stop to watch me parallel park into some tight spots. On one try even. I got out one time and a lady said, "Amazing." I laughed and asked why and she said, "That would have taken me all day or I would have given up." My response was simply, "I know, it's a lost art." and I walked off.
Bob, you might have forgotten the most important thing.. .COLOUR

The worst thing is that when you stop, slightly past the parking space to allow you to back in properly, with your right hand signal on, some meathead is right on your back bumper.
Then they get pissed, blow their horn, and try to get around you.
Are you sure you want your son to drive it?

I want to be the one to teach him how to handle and respect a powerful car. A Little at a time.

Robert, thanks for the update. I turned 66 this year, and my CDL, on "auto-renewal", came in the mail. I already started worrying about the "test" in 5 years, as I was due. Not sure about passing the parallel park....
Now, no worries mate, hope I live that long.

Bob and Marty, your cars are going to accelerate like a bat out of hell.
Both yours cars would give my old monster Miata a real run for its money. It weighed somewhere around 2400 pounds and produced around 270 hp.
The latest V8 powered miatas, running Corvette engines, produce 415 hp and still weigh 2400 to 2500 pounds.
