So my car is still sitting waiting for the shipper to secure transport.  I'm am confident that the upgrades were worth the long wait but I may have very little top down driving if the car does not ship soon.

A little birdie said that I should just fly out and drive it home.  We also have an event in Michigan on 10-11 that I am nervous we may need to cancel. The better half is also giving me lot of grief. The madness continues.

If you decide to fly-in and drive your new beast home be sure your phone is always charged and you have your triple A paid up. There is a long ways of a lot of nothing on that route and cell phone used to be spotty at best. We drove that route once once from Seattle in the Cobras going to London, OH for the Spring Fling. Not a lot of traffic except for oil trucks and not a lot of police presence either, so you can hi-ball your car for a bit, gas stations were few and far between also, top off whenever you can.

The thought of having my car on a transport riding below another car that leaks oil onto my baby for 3,000 bumpy miles would driver me crazy.  I'd absolutely do the drive. In my experience, with some shippers you don't always get the position in the transport you think you're getting!

Can't wait to see that beauty at Carlisle next spring, Marty!

Jack, I've shipped my Cobra 4x on enclosed transport, once when I first bought it shipped from Chicago to Phoenix, then I shipped it(and two other cars) from Phoenix to Bainbridge Island, WA when we moved, then I shipped it from Seattle along with 4 other Cobra owners from Seattle to Columbus, OH and back for the Spring Fling. And finally I shipped from WA to CO, again when we moved. Twice the car being a convertible was placed on the upper lift by the shipper so it wasn't in danger of oil drips or leaks from a car above, and when we shipped to OH and back two of our cars were covered with tarps, the last time when we moved to CO it rode on the lower level and the shipper wrapped the entire car with visquine then placed a tarp cover over it--The Cobra was the last on, first off. I also shipped my unfinished '48 Anglia, the '33 Vicki, the '55 Chevy and my wife's '65 Mustang--got a discount for shipping multiple cars

The shipping companies and their drivers treated the cars as if they were their own and were extremely conscientious. Just my take and experience using three different companies over the years

That's a nice story G.R.  The shipper took pains to make sure the car was not harmed---even wrapping them. I guess if you get a great shipper like our own wizard, or the shippers you are telling us about your car is going to be fine.

I didn't mean to say that all shippers are awful but I did read some internet horror stories when I was once looking for a shipper.  Mine was ok too because there was only one lever so nothing could be put over my car.

Thanks for sharing those experiences!

Marty:

If it'll make you feel better, I can go out in my garage and sit there, looking at Pearl and listening to some nice "smooth Jazz" in the background, sipping on a Sam Adams seasonal Ale while I tinker with my BN2 heater test bed.

It's not YOUR car, but you can live vicariously through me.  No charge.

I can even make "Vroom-Vroom" noises for ya.......Or, again, for no charge, I can ride around chasing the local kid with his WRX and get an authentic exhaust sound for ya....Your choice.

I am counting the days until the transport arrives.  I have booked us into that last orginized drive of the season with the local club.   Round trip will be about 400 miles with the back road detours thrown in.  Should give me good time to get aquatinted with my winter/spring/summer upgrades.

Here is a snippet:

We’ll tour the scenic coastline of southwestern Lake Michigan where you’ll see remnants of it’s industrial past and watch the land transition into harbor country with picturesque back roads, villages & vineyards.

A factory-turned-distillery sets the mood at lunch Saturday before our afternoon drive through wine country. We’ll make a short stop at an exceptional new vineyard as we make our way north to Saugatuck. Those who are interested can enjoy a wine tasting before we continue to cruise the countryside to Saugatuck for the evening.

You’ll have a little time to yourself to check in to your hotel and relax (or explore quaint Saugatuck & Douglas) before the evening festivities. We’ve arranged a special room rate for those who are quick to act, and there are numerous charming B&Bs in the area for those looking for intimate lodgings.

The evening will start with private local wine tasting and local craft beers during our cocktail hour at a one of the area’s best art galleries and wine bar. The vibe will be casual and relaxed. Plenty of time for conversation and exploring the proprietor’s gallery and wine shelves. But, be careful not to overdo at the wine tasting because you’ll want to enjoy the farm to table dinner catered by one of Saugatuck’s most sought after caterers. Our private dinner will be in a rustic-chic barn across the courtyard from the lower gallery. And, we’ve arranged to have the barn and courtyard to ourselves after dinner in case people want to have night caps there instead of hitting the local bars.

No doubt many of us will be up til the wee hours, but save some steam for breakfast and the scenic ride the next morning. If you’d rather sleep in, catch a later breakfast and mosey home on your own, go right ahead.

Cafe Macchiato over and out.

Rich, yeah I almost forgot about that stuff.   Next weekend is now tentative because Sandy got sick yesterday:-(
I want to meet up before I put the car away.

I open the mail today and the President Of Stanistan sent me what I have been looking for for (can you say for for) going on two years.   Starting to feel normal again:-)  I just need a car to put it on.image
