I almost felt like I was a west coaster today (aside from leaves falling from the trees and it being 57 degrees). There was a C&C a few miles from my house today for the Boys and Girls Club. So I loaded the girls into the 911 and headed out. I had no idea that all these cars are in such close proximity to me. On display were about 20 Ferraris, 30 Porsches, A Spyker, A Lambo, DB9, DB6, A Jensen, An Avanti, A Tesla, and some others. I met this guy that had an original Speedster AND an original black 1973 RS Carrera (LH Drive)(pic below. not my kids). I told him it kinda looked like my driveway but they were REAL and my weren't. I also ran into a guy who is a memeber at a country club I worked at in my golf pro days. He had a 59 Convertible D and an old Jag sedan. Neither of us had any idea we shared an appreciation. Oh, and there was a Panamera there too. I don't care what anyone says, I liked it. I no fan of Porsche making sedans and SUVs but it's a nice looking car if you can get past it being a Porsche. ;)
Well, it ain't Cali but it was nice to see some sweet cars and hang with my girls. (My 4 yr old said "Daddy, I don't want to look at the cars anymore. I want to see them race. God, I love that kid!)

Not sure if it's a RS Touring,Danny. I'm still in the "Porsche 911's 101" stage of my education. I asked him if it was an original and he chickled and said he gets that alot. Then he pulled up a sign he puts on his windshield at Porsche shows that says "Yes it is". :) I think I posted it was LH drive but I meant to say RH drive. Duh.
I'll see if I can contact the guy for more pics. He posts on the mid atlantic Ferrari forum and he's a local Delawarean so he shouldn't be too hard to track down. There is a BAD ASS black outlaw 911 on the pelican forum. I'll find a pic and post it for you here.

Jimbo,
The wife and I were just discussing Morro the other day. It's looking more like a flight out than my cross country drive.
Sorry, but if that is a pic of your buddy's car, his "RSR" is a fake. Porsche didn't make the RS or the RSR until 1973, no external oil fill on ANY of the real ones. Angela and Larry will back me up, as well as all the books I have. What we have here is an outlaw, replica of an RSR on a 1972 chassis with 911R taillights. No RS or RSR ever had the 911 letters on the decklid. A VERY cool car, but no it ain't original.

BTW, I like your wheels.

And my car is a 1972 also, FWIW.
Sorry, the pic up top looks like a REAL RS, the pic at the bottom is not the same car. Real RS has 9" flares in the rear, stock front fenders, RSR has 11" rear flares, 9" front. Those taillights at the bottom were on 1968 911R only.

RS lightweight: no clock, no glovebox door, no passenger visor, no rear seats, felt carpet in back, lighter glass, lighter steel, etc.

RSR: racing car, no creature comforts at all.

RS Touring: full interior, nice Recaro factory sport seats.

Here's one of my wheels. Those are fingerprints in a light coating of dust, not an imperfection.

Nah, Danny thats not the same car. The car I saw at the show the other day was an original, the one I posted in the thread earlier today is a car I saw on the Pelican site. I don't know who owns that one, I just thought it was a cool outlawish 911. I just noticed the plate (1972 RSR) which I'm assuming you're referring to wrt originality.

What are you looking to do to your car? Are you going for original or outlaw? Oh, and by your descriptions of the different RS, RSR, etc... I feel pretty confident saying the car I saw at the show was a Touring model. There was a full interior. I can't say that I've seen many of those cars in person, but I can say I like all the ones I've seen in person or not.

My plans so far for my 83 are to add a front valance with a little more downforce capabilities to accompany the duck I put on. I have alot of the interior pulled out now and plan to replace the carpet with an RS kit and put some recreation retro Recaro looking seats from GTS Seats. I may do the dash in the basketweave/chrome trim look if I decide to pull the radio. The console is gone. I put in some Rennline flat black perforated floor boards and a Momo Mod7 steering wheel which give it a little more "purposeful" look inside. I may do the RS door panels at some point as well.
The wheels are a "test". When I put tires on the other day I was chasing the balance weight way too much so the wheels aren't very straight. I'll probably buy a set of solid Fuchs and have them powdercoated to look RSRish when the time comes. And eventually a top end at the least. The 3.0 in there now has a 160K on it but it runs strong so until I need to do any work I'll leave it as is. The 915 has already had 1st and 2nd redone and it's pretty solid. Maybe a Wevo shifter if I get bored. ;)
Mickey, I like what you're thinking about WRT your car.

I did get an Outlaw badge from Dirk, and my car is a '72 also. So kind of outlaw homage to RSs. The '72 actually has the best weight distribution IMHO, the oil tank is in front of the rear wheels instead of behind, plus it's a longer wheelbase than the real early cars. My battery boxes are gone and filled in. Battery is going in the smuggler's well. Lots of subtle but racer type mods have been done and will be done. Getting closer on the house so I should be able to get back to the cars sometime soon.

I need bearings and gaskets and I can put the motor together, that will be first.
