Gordon,

Go for it. This is my first year & winter with my Speedy. The winters are long enough here, but with the Speedy just sitting there in the garage, it seems like an eternity. Next house, assuming I am still in the Midwest will have a heated garage.

The wife(Sandy) and I are heading out to Ft. Lauderdale to catch some rays and some R&R(no kids on this trip). We fly out at 6:00 AM tommorow. It's too bad we can't check the Speedy as luggage.

Yup...did a loop arond Lady's and St. Helena islands - stopped at one of the docks that was used in the filming of "Forest Gump", stopped at the "Shrimp Shack" for lunch and later came upon a bunch of guys street dragging their cafe racer bikes - cool afternoon!!

Nice tractor, Ron.....chase that snow coming and going!!

76F here in beautiful downtown Beaufort, today (2/4/08). Winter lasted the past three weeks, and now we're finally getting warmer. Whew! Been a long Winter!!

Spent the afternoon cleaning leaves off the lawn in Tee-shirt weather. We're in-between "falls" - The Hickory trees lost their leaves back in late November (lots of big leaves to clean up), but the Live Oaks lose all their leaves in early March (LOTS of little leaves to clean up). And the Palmettos drop their fronds all year long (one palm frond is almost the size of my Speedster - a windy day can drop several). Never lived in a place that needed a chipper/shredder more than this place.

The only snow I want to see (after seeing 18" plus lots of ice when we visited the kids in New England over Christmas) is on the "Weather Channel".....I remember Maple Sugaring in Southern Vermont when I was in my teens - snow up to my arm pits and wallowing around in it carrying a couple of sap buckets while freezing my fingers off (and they STILL ache when they're cold). No thanks!

One of the "Speedstah Guys", finally getting warmer in the Southland
(Big Oyster Roast at the car club meeting this week!!!!)
A balmy minus 31 today. Everyone is talking about how warm it feels compared to the last 10 days which saw into the mid-minus 40's every day with one day almost minus 50.

Going to be short lived though...back to minus 40's by Thurs just in time for the weekend. I'm getting old. Used to be minus 35 was about my limit for winter outdoor recreation. That was the temp I would cease running my dog teams...just too cold. Now I've upped that to minus 25. Less than minus 25 and I don't got kite skiing.

Of course, lots of snow. 'Bout the same as Mike's in Quebec. Only ours will still be here come May.
It's hard to believe that yesterday I was at the pool in 85 degrees temps in FL and now I am back in Chicago were it is -27 degrees with the wind chill. A 100 plus degree difference to put it in perspective.

A short but excellent trip. Perfect weather, good food, and a super nice remodeled hotel (Crown Plaza-Hallandale). We rented a convertible Mustang v-6 to cruise up and down A1A. Should have went to Hertz for a GTH but the v-6 did the trick for a few days.

We also hit South Beach for a night; a very unusual place were the tourist stick out like a sore thumb and the locals are all trying to compete for coolness with each other. I have to admit after a few Grey Gooses, I started to get into the scene, even if only for one night. It's one of those must see it for yourself type places. For a 5 day 4 nighter I would call it a success.

Only negatives: Southern FL has become a concrete jungle. It

Marty, you hit the nail squarely on the head. South Florida has changed from a classy vacation spot with a night life to rival any major city to a s--thole. Crime, overgrowth, influx of non-assimilating immigrants and total weirdness has tarnished the image of the tropical paradise it once was. I live in Ft Lauderdale but worked in Miami, now I'm retired and don't go near Miami if I can help it. Now if I want to visit somewhere no one speaks English I will either fly to Spain or try South America.
