Anyone planning on this event? From what I understand It's a vintage motorcycle show with a Porsche exhibit, set around a horse racing track... And I hear 356's are expected to show, curious if it's one of you guys. Would love to say hi!

More info and car registration in the link https://www.thecalifornian.us

Holy Crap ! This is 5 blocks from my home. Thanks for the heads-up  Scarlet....

Now I really wish I had my Spyder running !  To have stuff like this going on in my neighborhood is exciting. Tomorrow there's a Cars n Coffee two blocks from my home. About 8am, I'll walk up there and see what's new and have my Starbuck there too.

This Santa Anita Park event is being held in one of the premier Horse Racing tracks in Calif.  All the cars and motorcycles will probably be staged in the center of the track. This is a beautiful grass area and with the Art Deco style Grand Stands on one side and the San Gabriel Mountains on the other, it will be a perfect place to get photos of your car for your portfolio. As I said, I don't have a car but I'm going and see how it is and check out the potential to show my future Spyder there.  I think that if some of you can make it for this event and show your car you should do it. I'll stand by your car so you can go look at all the others if you wish. It's only from 11am to 6pm. Thankfully not all day !  The car show info says that all cars are welcome but so far it has been mostly Porsche.  This group that put together this car show part regularly cruise rallies up in the mountain roads around here. If any of you are hot to hook up with a group that likes to get out and drive....look them up. Their info is on the Santa Anita flyer link above. I have a photography class at PCC on that date so I won't be there till about 1pm................Bruce

Jeeze...you guys got it tough, eh ?

Hey Bruce...I just realized I was almost in your neighbourhood back in 2011 or 12 on our megatrip. Got out of Hollywood and up to Victorville for the night on the way to Vegas.

Not likely anyone will beat my distance record from that one. Sacramento to LA, Vegas, the Dam, Oatman, AZ., Grand Canyon, old Rt 66 East then up to Durango, Co, over to Taos, NM down to 66 again and over East to Carlisle, then home up to Ottawa, Canada. Sure was a great trip.

David...Your trip must have been fantastic ! That is a lot of driving. I think I saw a photo of you and your wife next to the statue in Kingman Az. Eagles was it ?  Yup... you were with in a mile from me if you used the 210 fwy going East.  We really like where we live.  With the horse track, drag strip, oval track and the Arboretum all very close in a nice bedroom community consisting of 87% Asian population who manicure their yards, it's beautiful. Unlike that sad situation in Gary Indiana, we are growing like crazy. It really does sadden me about Gary. I am from the  Midwest, Iowa and Minn, and still miss the inherent culture and lifestyle of that area. On another thread here, guys were reminiscing about their childhood days and I totally relate to that. Just by virtue of what they said they were doing I could tell that they were from the midwest or mideast. You are fortunate where you live as well David. Your area is gorgeous too !

Bruce

That trip was fantastic. I just checked and it was 2011. We came up the Furgeson Nacimiento Raod from the PCH due to a landslide and came out somehow beside Ft. Hunter Ligget in early May . The troops were jumping up and down like crazy waving at us....you'd think they'd never seen a Speedster before. Turns out they just announced the death of Bin Laden.

Kingman, AZ is where we left to get into Oatman. That Eagles song...'Take it Easy' is what you are referring to with the statue ..." standin' on a corner in Winslow Arizona". Man, I remember that trip like yesterday. I'm lucky to have a Wife that enjoys that stuff too.

Very Cool ! Yup Winslow not Kingman.  When I saw that I made a mental note to stop and do that same photo sometime. We do some pretty long road trips but yours are outrageously long ! How many miles did you go ? That was in your old Speedster ?

2007 was the last Eagle Concert I went to. It was at the Nokia Center here in downtown LA. The Dixie Chicks were on before they came on. It was a great night and so was the Beer and other stuff. I had never watched the Dixie Chicks before but do now. I think one of them got in trouble for saying something and got a lot of flack for it but I don't know what she said.  We ended up having breakfast about 2 in the morning at The Pantry on 9th and Figueroa. just down the street. That place has been open 24/7 for over 75 years. There's no lock on the doors. Simple good food !...........Bruce

Thanks, Bruce. I can't remember the number of miles but either 5,500 or 5,900 rings a bell. That's actual miles put on the odo.

I must have been brave back then. We bought the car with a bone stock 1600 VW in Sept 2010 in Boise Idaho and drove it home to Ottawa. I flat towed it to Florida in January '12 and we drove around for two weeks and picked up a 1835 engine from a lad near Baltimore on the way home. I put that one in and freshened up the car a bit then shipped it to Dave Mitchell in Sacramento and did the big trip with the timing right for arriving on time at Carlisle 2012. First pic shows the car at Carlisle with a map in the front seat showing the trip

I gave the organizers at Carlisle shyt ( somewhat in jest ) for not having an award for the longest distance driven to get to the show. They quickly got one made up and that's the second pic. When we got home they sent me an Ipad to thank me. I had one so I sold it. Two weeks later another Ipad arrived at the door. I figured why tempt fate and kept that one.

Funny you should bring up Hotel California.  Susan and her girlfriend were down in Todos Santos Baja Calif. at the Hotel California there in town. It was late but they decided to tour around the hotel. When they were trying to return to the bar they discovered that they were locked in to the adjacent hotel area ! So here they were in the Hotel California and they can't get out !!  ha ha ...just like the song.. A security guard came by and got them out later.....Bruce
