It was time to put the compensator back in.

Crawled under the car and realized that with the axles hanging down because the car is on jackstands, the mounting bracket couldn't match up with the transaxle.

First inclination was to jack up each wheel to level the axles and put 2x4's under them while I attached the bracket. 

Second inclination was to jack up the compensator and it would move the axles up and the bracket and the trans mate up.

Turns out that keeping the compensator moving parts in line and the compensator on the jack was like chasing cats.

I asked myself, "Self, what would my mechanically inclined buddys on the SOC suggest?"

Immediately duct tape sprang to mind.

Immobilize all the moving parts with tape, attach the whole thing to a length of 2x4 to rest on the jack and, voila!

This is for the next guy faced with this.

  • IMG_1240 (1): Duct taped the moving parts to stabilize them and taped a length of 2x4 to the mounting bracket.
  • IMG_1244: Floor jack compressed the compensator and it went into alignment.
  • IMG_1248 (1): In place, bolted down and ready for tape removal.
