As Alan says, you can use air cleaner assemblies with at least 3" height. Of course the motor is a VW Type I but being that you don't have any info. from the builder you won't be able to know what you have in there (displacement, valve sizes, camshaft grind, etc.) unless you take it apart.
My CMC came with sawed-pipe risers under the air cleaners. It was a 1641cc, and the height of those air cleaners and the method of attachment looks to be virtually the same.
The pipes were slotted at the ends so they could be clamped with wormgear screws. The air cleaners flopped around from time to time.
In the photo, the pipes are sitting in the near-end of the little red wagon, side by side.
Don't know if that helps with so many possible internal parts combos out there.

Hey guys went to buy air filters today they dont have them at pep boys I want to get the larger ones like you guys suggested I took the filter off and there is no number on the filter the only number is in the cover it says 3021 and -14 -15 I went to the empi website but I dont see anything related to those numbers any suggestions
John,

The Dells are generally considered the best of carbs (by me). If they are in good condition, consider yourself lucky to have them. They are, however, out of production. Still, you can get almost any of the repair parts (including complete rebuild kits) from CB Performance. So there is no reason to panic about out-of-production carbs.
If you want to get smart fast, get this: http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=2
