I am going to put on a Vintage Speed (not vintage speedster) Stainless exhaust, and I wanted to see what your heater/J pipe setup looks like. Mine has been bastardized and Im not sure exactly how I want the very solid muffler guy to mate it to the new setup. I'll try to post a picture of my car's exhaust. I think a 3rd grade art class fabbed it up. Again, one more reason Im ditching the 4 tip setup! Thanks guys if you have any.. I looked in the photos here, but didnt find anything, in particular, CMC/exhaust setups... Thanks, Keith

As it happens, I have a stock pair of (I think) Stainless heater boxes that I need to sell.

I haven't put a magnet on them to ascertain whether they're stainless or chromed steel - I could do that tomorrow, if you're interested, and measure the ID of the tubes for you, too.

{edit} but now that I've re-read your post, you want pics of what the J-tubes look like. I have a Berg header and might be able to get pics in a day or so if I can get to a lift, but they're nothing special looking - just regular-looking J-tubes. Interested?

KW, you say you are going to get a Vintage Speed stainless muffler. If you do not need heat, Vintage makes a total exhaust system with all pipes including the ones to #1 and #3 cylinder. That makes a clean install. Also, Paul Rich tried a Vintage Speed muffler on his Thunder Ranch Speedster and it rubbed on the body. If you are ordering your muffler, mention the fact that it is for a Speedster Replica and they can locate the 2 pipes that go under the rear body to clear this area.
I'm debating if I can still salvage the heater boxes by Tig welding a flange back on it. Perhaps I could cut that mess off, and clamp it. The problem I see is getting that braising material off or there will be NO welding to speak of... in the end, I'll make it right. But hey, I enjoy tinkering and that's the stuff I knew I was getting when I bought a $12,000 car! I knew going in.
Can't be too much emphasis about the danger of welding galvanized metals without carefully removing the coating. Experienced welders have died after overconfidently taking chances with the stuff.

What may SEEM like adequate ventilation may not be at all. Welding fumes have a way of gravitating under shields of welding helmets. The effects may take hours but it can make you very sick - up to and including death.

To put a happy note in... :)
