Just to set the stage, you're hundreds of miles away from home and lock your keys in the car. I read in Men's Health that you can call home and have someone pick up the spare key fob-clicky-thing that does your locks. That person can hold the fob up to their phone and you hold your cell up to the locked car. They can unlock your doors through the cell phone connection. Apparently, it will really work, but I have not tried it.

I agree, John. Remember guys, most of these devices are small radio transmitters and your car has a matching reciever. Since cell phones transmit sound in a limited range (admittedly via radio, but at different frequencies), there's no way that this can work. The only such devices that don't use radio signals are (or at least were) used by Mercedes who uses (used?) infrared similar to a TV remote. Again, a cell phone won't work here.
My secretary said it would work - but like you guys, I thought it was BS. We tried first to unlock the car from the building - nothing. Then we tried it from the same location with the cell phone setup. It took a few tries (moving the phone around the car) but it worked. Could have been a fluke..
