I have rebuilt a few cars but my favourite was a 1979 Beetle convertable from the ground up and from front to back, that was an excellent ride. I always loved the look of the Speedster and was shopping for one in the late eighties. But my 2 young boys came along and mortgage, well you know the rest of that story. But I always thought about owning a 356 Porsche and now I am seriously shopping around for one.
I can't afford the real deal but I really like the replica's.
So that brings me to this great site of yours. I live in Ontario, Canada and was wondering if there are any fellow canuckers out there.
My main concern is how difficult would it be to get a replica Speedster into Canada.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, John.

John this has been touched on frequently. Kit cars of any form built or not are not permitted for import. Although there are a few that have done it, a very few! You would be best off trying to find one in Canada. You can use the search on this site and use IMPORT TO CANADA as your search words.

Hi John, I too am looking for a speedster and live on the west coast of Canada, keep me posted if you come across any helpful information.
From everything I've read it seems very difficult indeed to import anything resembling a kit car into Canada unless its more than 15 years old.

Henry at Intermeccanica is a really nice guy and his product is fantastic. If I could I would buy one of his, however I am new to this whole speedster thing and am looking for something used or incomplete (less expensive) so I can get into it sooner.

There was a guy on craigslist our here that has a used IM, he was asking 22k,pretty good price for an IM, not sure what kind of shape its in...

JOHN I DONT WANT TO SOUND LIKE A BROKEN RECORD BECAUSE IVE LEFT MESSAGES ON YOUR OTHER POSTINGS CHECK OUT cswspeedsters.com THERE OUT OF KINGSTON ONTARIO.AND NO I DONT WORK FOR THEM IN JUST EXCITED TO FIND A BUILDER IN ONTARIO WHICH MEANS TO ME. THAT IM JUST THAT CLOSER TO GETTING MY OWN!! WITH OUT ALL THE HASSLES TO DO WITH CANADA CUSTOMS AND THERE BALONEY!!! AND AFTER LOOKING AT THE INTERMECCANICA SITE THE PRICE IS NOT TO BAD AFTER ALL. GRANTED THE US COUNTERPART IS ALOT CHEAPER ($18000 - $22000 USD) BUT THAT COMES WITH ALOT OF HASSLES IE. TRUCKING COMPANYS, CUSTOMS, CUSTOMS BROKERS AND GOD FORBID YOU ACCIDENTLY SAY ITS A KIT CAR YOU CAN FORGET IT!!GO DIRECTLY TO CAR JAIL AND DO NOT COLLECT $200. YOU WILL HAVE TO PARK YOUR CAR AT A LOT AND THATS JUST MORE MONEY. WHICH IS WHAT THEY WANT. THEY JUST WANT YOU TO BUY CANADIAN! WHICH JUST SUCKS BECAUSE IM A HUGE FAN OF VINTAGE SPEEDSTERS AND THERE NEW WIDE BODY KITS WITH THERE LOW PROFILE TIRES.BUT IF YOU WANT TO SPEND ALL YOUR TIME AND MONEY TRYING TO GET ONE ACROSS THE BORDER GOOD LUCK AND PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW IT WENT!I HAVE SENT THEM AN EMAIL THIS MORNING AND AM WAITING FOR INFO IF IT CAN BE REGESTERED IN ONTARIO.WILL LET YOU KNOW IF I FIND ANY THING OUT.
Alex it isn't about buying Canadian, it's about car safety issues.

And as posted CSW has yet to produce a finished car that anyone knows of. Seems to me someone with an idea that hasn't made something yet. Be wary of backyard car builders. CSW has popped up over the last few years on this site and shy of 2 produced email responses nothing has been produced.

Oh, and on the left of the keyboard there is a CAP LOCKS KEY. Do us all a favor and hit it once. :)

Thanks Mike for the info Im just so tired of all the red tape just to get your dream car! I guess the best canadian company (and only) is intermeccanica out of British Columbia.
But from what ive been told it might be difficult to get regestered
and plated in ontario is this true? oh and sorry about the caps lock thats what happens when you dont look at the screen. ;)
If the only requirement is that it be over 15 years old - there are many FiberFab, Classic Motor Carriages, and IM speedsters that could be exported from US. The CMC unfinished kit in my garage has a 1989 Certificate of Origin and a 1970 VW pan with title so it qualifies - right? You can often pick up old ones needing some TLC for 6-10k. Add another $10-15k and you have a show winner.
