Apparently, the output tube from the mechanical fuel pump separated and fuel went everywhere. Gone in 5 minutes. Driver is FINE, got out OK. Heard a pop, then pulled over.
Please, check your cars! Install a Halon system or a Blaze-cut, the car and life you save may be your own! There is not enough time to stop, pop the bonnet(adding oxygen!), and use an extinguisher.

I was sorry I missed the fire suppression discussion at Carlisle --- must have been short. Know a couple have jumped on it. Shouldn't take getting burned to see the light.
Years ago my father-in-laws '69 bug caught fire - the brass fuel line into alloy carb vibrated out over 40 years. Melted carb, cooked engine lid, rear wiring and broke the back window. He was lucky, FL sand put it out.
Back in the late 70's I had dropped a friend of (heading to college) at the airport with his car. The next morning (Easter) I started it up to return it to his parents house and pop-n-poof it was on fire 20 ft away from the end of my water hose. By the time the fire dept. got their it was to late...

Installed and untested (hopefully it stays untested) + handheld mount ahead of the shift lever.
I caught a speedster type IV motor fire just in time ( less than 30 seconds) and it was, just by luck... damage to only the deck lid edge, some rubber and lip of body at deck lid.
I think I'll talk to Henry about a fire suppression system in the new build...
