Apparently, the output tube from the mechanical fuel pump separated and fuel went everywhere. Gone in 5 minutes. Driver is FINE, got out OK. Heard a pop, then pulled over.

 

Please, check your cars! Install a Halon system or a Blaze-cut, the car and life you save may be your own! There is not enough time to stop, pop the bonnet(adding oxygen!), and use an extinguisher.

I was sorry I missed the fire suppression discussion at Carlisle --- must have been short.  Know a couple have jumped on it.  Shouldn't take getting burned to see the light.

 

Years ago my father-in-laws '69 bug caught fire - the brass fuel line into alloy carb vibrated out over 40 years. Melted carb, cooked engine lid, rear wiring and broke the back window.  He was lucky, FL sand put it out.
