My speedster replica keeps running after I have turned the key to the "off" position. When I press the brake the motor shuts off. The car starts and runs fine but most times it will act as I described above. I just put in a new key lock ignition and the problem is still there. Any ideas as to why?

What's probably happening is that the alternator is backfeeding the coil through the dash light. The brake lights, being fed off the same circuit, when they activate, causes enough drain to kill the ignition and stop the engine. You might notice the warning light glowing with the ignition off but engine running.
You can fix it by installing a (anything in this range is common: 1-6 Amp, 50-200V, http://www.radioshack.com/prod...sp?productId=2062577 ) diode between the warning light and alternator. Diode stripe goes on alternator side of wiring:
Fusebox -- Bulb -- Diode (--|>|--) -- Alternator D+
Could also be a symptom of a failing alternator/regulator.
Maybe an ignition switch problem?
Terry, he put a new switch in and it still has the same problem...
Justin nailed it, it's backfeeding 12v. Put the diode in. Maybe get your alternator or generator/regulator checked though, just to be safe.
I am lucky enough to have an awesome auto electric store near me, checks things for free, and KNOWS what he's talking about. Not like Pep Boys, Autozone etc. They are mostly not real mechanically inclined.

I don't see a problem, Bill. I see an oportunity here...
It's amazing what I've learned on this site. Never heard of this one before...
You have to hit the on button on the stereo to start my car and to turn it off you have to blink the high beam switch twice then tap the brake.
