I recently bought carb air filters for a look closer to original-style filters.

They fit 'OK' but not tight.  I don't want to risk over-tighening and breaking something,  and therefore I'm looking for advice.

Has anyone installed these? (see photo #1).

I was thinking a gasket would work.  Apply it to the inside of the neck or base of the filter where it fits onto the carb  (photo #2)

I'm not sure if gasket material 'cut to length' would work?  (1/2 inch wide, 1/4 inch thick, cut to length, for example).  I could make myself, but what would the correct material be?  And what's a good source to buy it?

Appreciate your advice, thanks.

For your consideration, have you tried researching 3M Foil tape… The 3M™ Foil Tape 3340 ( typically found at hardware stores)  has the combination of a foil backing and acrylic adhesive that gives foil tape a superb operational temperature range of -40°F (-40°C) to 300°F (149°C).  Easy to cut to the desired width.    There are others  with higher temp raging- up to 600F (.  https://www.amazon.com/3M-High...13874637779&th=1 ) but I suspect the carb body will not get that hot- near 300F.   … and if it does you likely will encounter some more serious engine issues.

For your piece of mind- you could always take the car for a test drive, get it up to temperature, and when you get home take a temperature reading (if you happen to have a temperature gun laying around. A cheap one can be found at harbor freight or Home Depot/Lowe’s/ napa/Autozone… and I have found many uses for them around the house/ garage)  https://www.harborfreight.com/...ermometer-63985.html

…though it seems those two airfliter tabs should close the needed gap.

just a thought….

hope this helps.
