In the pursuit of a better performing engine, I have been into the carbs a few times. Twice I have removed the idle jets, and both times one of them (the same one) has had a cut-up o-ring. Today I replaced it and put it back in and continued on, then went back and pulled it again and it is still fine. I then ran the car a bit, checked the timing, etc., pulled it again, and the o-ring is still fine. Any ideas what is causing this o-ring to get cuts in it?

This was the first time I pulled all four idle jets and one of them is bent, at the top where the shaft meets the head. Is that not a big deal, or should it be replaced?

The carbs are Dell 40s.
