Carbon Fiber

I recently saw a vehicle with an interior done with carbon fiber. Looked really racey and high tech. I deal with carbon fiber repairs at work all the time, but had never thought of it as an interior.I love the outlaw look and thought it would be neat. Any thoughts. Thanks Scott

Sure, I work with it alot on engine components as well... Trick stuff, light and super strong.

I have worked with most composite materials such as Kevlar,Carbon fiber, M2, E & S glass ,epoxy, vinylester, poly- resins. We use to make surfboards and hydroplane hulls. To get the great smooth look for carbon fiber Vac-bagging is the only way to go. You eliminate all air bubbles and get complete saturation of the glass. There are outfits out there that will make anything you want . Though cost is a bit pricey for custom work.

I was going to lay up the interior myself.I am going to pull out the interior this winter and start the project.I think it will look trick, but not sure how I will finish the unfinished edges. I have enough material remants to finish a car or two.

Make sure you use an epoxy or poly-resin that will not yellow. In areas that are prone to scratches you may want to consider coating your panels with a clear polyurethane.

Hey Joe thanks. I had not thought about the UV or the yellowing. I have a clear aliphatic top coat, Im wondering if that will protect the epoxy.

Here are a few suppliers that I have used in the past. They do sell non yellowing epoxy resins.

I would like to see the speedster with the carbon interior. I am gearing up for a build and this really interest me.

TR is doing a carbon fiber spyder for Macgoo. I have seen pictures of it in process - it looks real sharp.

I was at TR last year and saw the carbon fiber body in production. It was very cool, but I still prefer the classic silver body.
