carerra headlamp grill removal

just drove my vs from lake country motorsports wi. to south dakota this weekend (1000 miles). lots of bugs under the headlamp grills. tried to remove them but no luck. in fact i ended up scratching the lamp trim ring. and need to replace that. any suggestions, hints, tricks for removing the grill and r&r the trim ring.
