Heal soon - ya need to come up with better story than "I was sober and fell out of my truck" though. I was washing a boat years ago, slipped and fell out (on dry land) but belt caught on line cleat. Friend with me was mowing lawn and couldn't hear my cry. After hanging upside down for what seemed like 1/2 hour, I undid belt and fell to ground pants-less. Sure glad no one had a camera! Had I been hurt - I would have come up with better story - or at least one involving numerous beers.
Hahaha.
OK, the full story. I pickled up a pair of 356C cab bumpers from the painter's and as I was leaving he said "I decided to take next week off, see you on Monday". No problem, right? So... unloading the bumpers at my shop, out of the back of my truck, I stepped off the truck bumper and my right pants leg caught on the hitch. I managed to get my left on the ground, but the bumper rack had me well over-centered and I was falling. Rather than throw (or drop) the rack, I pulled it to my chest and let my body kinda roll to the ground. Bumpers to my chest and steel rack digging into my shin I heard a "crack" like a bundle of twigs being broken and I actually saw a white light as my knee blew sideways. So... there I am, laying in the middle of my driveway with one leg bent sideways, one leg hanging off the hitch, and 2 bumpers in a bench press position about a foot off the ground... After what seemed like 20 minutes I managed to get the rack off of me (and YES I saved the bumpers) and crawl into my truck and make my way to the ER.
I felt like I had to share, as every time I read that I "fell out of my truck" all I could picture in my head was the town drunk opening his car door and falling out into his driveway, too drunk to walk.

bumpers in question are pictured below:

I'm sorry to hear that Cary But just take care of the knee. and let it heal.

I hope you don't have to much discomfort.

I know some of your pain I have arthritis in my feet legs and back This cold weather is awful.. It hurts worse this year..

I also like your car lift, Mr Vestal has the same lift in His shop and I wish I had a place for one here. It sure helps I have been lucky he lets me use it when he's not real busy.
Carey,

I have heard that "crack" where stuff starts coming apart inside. I don't know about white light, but I twisted my ankle so bad once that when the bindings in there started to give way, they took some bone with them and I heard it all -- had a little bone fracture too. Will never forget that sound. Happened back in my late teens. Fast fwd some 40+ years to a year or so ago and I go to the podiatrist because I have a sore toe (something about gout I think) and he takes X-rays of both feet and says "You spraied that ankle pretty bad once, huh??". Made me wonder what all my old softball injuries are going to look like if I ever get to 90.

Anyway, sorry to hear of your accident, and sounds like you might well have killed yourself if it had been a one-point landing on your noggin. Please take it easy and do not rush things. Unlike these wonderful cars, the human body can fix itself, sort-of and if you let it. Glad you saved the bumpers however . . .

PS: I am now just noticing the dates here, and this is all old news, pretty much -- happened in July??. I guessing he's all healed up by now -?-
