Yes Gordon, I'll do my best to be at the gathering of the faithful.
Am going to try to get to Carlisle and am coming from the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Will probably travel I-64 from Virginia Beach area to I-295 North to I-95 North to US 17 to US 29 to US 15 thru Gettysburg and on to Carlisle. Anyone on this general travel plan? Use to drive back and forth from Carlisle area to the Outer Banks every third weekend for 2 years so I know the route, just don't know of others heading to Carlisle along the way. Hate to do battle with the 18-wheelers on I-95, with more that 1 of us in formation maybe we won't get squashed. If no one to pony up with I possibly will trailer the car to Harrisburg, unload at a relative's then 20 minutes to the Fairgrounds.

As one of those nasty "eighteen wheeler drivers" I'll suggest if you come across Rt 70 West in MD. then up Rt. 81 to Carlisle it is actually shorte time wise and a heck of a lot better road. Should you choose to go this route you are more than welcome to drop the trailer at my home here in Chambersburg, Pa ( just off Rt 81 ) and drive the speedster the remaining 45 miles to Carlisle.

Alan, To get to 70, which I've also traveled, means 95 into 495 in the DC area, right?
No slam intended to those who pilot the big guys, just hard to keep track of them if the top is up, your mirrors are located mostly wrong so that what you see coming at you is the front axel, or worst case, its raining typhoon style and your wipers are going back and forth about 1/2 inch off the windshield. Experienced this bringing the car north from the seller in Jackson, Mississippi, about 1200 miles in two many hour long storms, oh yeh, no side curtains.
Your offer is appreciated and tempting. will keep in touch.
Thanks
Jeff,

Good to hear you're planning to join us. You don't need no steenking side curtains, we expect sun! Worse case, if it rains pull the seats and run a fan and dehumidifier for a few days when you get back home (I've done it myself)! Seriously, we're really looking forward to the gang descending on Carlisle. Don't forget to register before the fee goes up, see SpeedstersEast.home.att.net for instructions.

Hope to see you there!

What the hey am I doing on this site?????

I'm in the office trying to proof a 1000 + page independent phone directory so I can get it to the printer in Utah tomorrow so I can get all 58,000 books back here to the Outer Banks in time to deliver all of them before Memorial day, and I'm fretting about Carlisle. The h--l with it, I NEED CARLISLE, I'll make it, the book will make it, my wife will eventually learn to live with it, if not --- time for another Sam Adams!!!!! Good nite forum.
Hey Alan!

Chris and I have been strongly recommending to people that they have CB radio on board their Speedsters if they're making the trip to Knotts/Carlisle (especially if they're in a Caravan) The reasoning is that they'll be tuned in to the truckers and will know better what's up ahead for road problems, and can quickly get trucker help with directions and tips if they need it. We've used CB's to great advantage in the past, but I'm curious as to your thoughts about it.

Thanks, Gordon
Gordon,
Can't hurt to be prepared! As a trucker myself, I can honestly tell you that within a 50 radius of Carlisle, traffic conditions can and do turn ugly more often than not.

BTW for all that will be coming via Rt 81 from both the North and South, within 7 miles of the Rt.11 Carlisle interchange (Hotel location )the speed limit is now reduced to 55mph and is "strictly enforced" due to 11 accident fatalities in a three month period.
