Folks: Bob at the H-D plant says he can handle up to ~20 folks in the AM on Friday 5/16, say around 10:00 +/-. Apparently other gearheads heading to Carlisle have thought to buzz the H-D plant on their way up, and Friday is THE day to do so. They do not run the tour on the week end. If we would have more than 20, all he can do is offer Thursday sometime. In this case he could take about 50. So I need to know how many people. Please respond in this space so I can get a count.

PS: after the tour, I imagine a stop at a local winery for lunch, which may be just a picnic. I am still contacting possible venues, so nothing concrete to offer yet. If someone knows of a nice winery/brewery in the general PA countryside in and around the York-Carlisle axis, please advise, so I can follow-up. York-Carlisle via secondary roads is about a 35 mi trip, FYI.

Sounds like the thing to do so count me in too (one). The last time I toured Milwaukee's Juneau Avenue plant in 1974, they were in the process of closing down the bike assembly line. I was told that the "new" plant was in York, Pa. so I took a trip down and had a look at the beginning of the new era.

One of the good things that AMF did before selling the business to a group of Harley Davidson investors was to create this modern assembly plant. I bought my first Harley, an FX-1200 Super Glide a year later. Although it exuded Harley charm, it was really pretty poorly built, but that's another story.

Like Dusty, I am a HOG life member.

I am Life HOG #0295288. Got my life number in '89. Bought my first Harley ('56 KH model) in '58 and followed southern circuit RCA for three seasons. (that is now PRCA for you youngsters!) or maybe I should just spell out PROFESSIONAL RODEO COWBOYS ASSOCIATION for you characters in the East who don't know bulls from barrels.

Happy Trails,

UPDATE:

We have a slot for ~20 folks reserved at the H-D plant in York, PA for 10:30 on Friday, 5/16. There are about 18 folks (if I count the heads properly in the posts above) willing to go. Anyone wanting to take this tour on Thursday should have no problem doing so, as they currently have plenty of space open then. I'd be delighted to broker that sign-up also, although I will not take that tour. Anyone wanting to arrange for Thurs needs to tell me what time of day works best.

My suggestion would be to plan to arrive Friday at around 10:00. This would leave time for unforeseens along the way, and also, since we are well aware of the stir that can be caused when 15 or twenty Speedsters flock in one place, maybe some time to deal w/ that. The tour itself takes about an hour. Afterwards, there will be lunch for those who care to join, along the way between York and Carlisle, exact location TBD.

I understand that Gordon will send out some info of a similar nature about the H-D tour shortly, plus more on the Carlisle meet itself and the further adventures throughout the week-end, etc.

As to the lunch-after thing, still poking around the local countryside for a nice venue. Is anybody averse to packing their own lunch, and then stopping by a local winery to eat and peruse/taste? Just a thought -- one of several at this point.
