We have started getting some last-minute questions about the Speedster Meet and Carlisle. For those of you heading to Carlisle there is alot of information on the Carlisle wesbite: www.carsatcarlisle.com/schedule/import/index.asp
They also have directions posted at: www.carsatcarlisle.com/getting_to_carlisle.asp Take a look and see if it answers all of your questions, page around and you will probably find everything you need to know. There is alot of info on the Speedsters East website: SpeedstersEast.home.att.net
It would be difficult for me to cover everything that is going on next weekend (May 21-23 in case you forgot). I'll list below what's going on but it's brief and not guaranteed to catch everything:
Almost 50 Speedsters have registered; washdown area on the left after you register and enter gate 3; seminars will be presented by Henry Reisner (Intermeccanica - "The History of the Speedster Replica and Intermeccanica") and John Steele (JPS Motorsports - "Tips & Tricks for the Speedster DIY Home Builder"); three Speedster manufacturers will be displaying their wares (maybe more?) including the two just mentioned and Special Edition, Inc (Beck Speedster); Alan Merklin will talk about "Alternate Heat" at the hospitality tent; many other seminars (mostly on Saturday but some of Friday) on welding, wiring, other replicas, Kit Car magazine, "How to Buy and Sell Kit Cars", etc.; Brian Hawthornthwaite's car displayed all weekend in the indoor invitational exhibition; Speedster hospitality tent on the show field; Speedster items raffled Saturday afternoon at the hospitality tent; group photo session Saturday afternoon; host hotel at the Carlisle Ramada; Carlisle country cruise Saturday evening (but you might be late for dinner); Saturday evening dinner hosted by the NJRC; go-kart & slick track races/batting cages/mini-golf after dinner; Sunday morning worship service; "Meet the Manufacturers" Sunday afternoon at the hospitality tent; import swap meet; many non-Speedster replica vendors displaying their latest vehices and products; car corral (replicas for sale); on-site dyno (costs a few bucks); drawing for a cherry 1963 Beetle Sunday afternoon; a Speedsterowners.com gathering or two; the Steel Yard - a large teeter-totter that cars are driven onto to see who can balance on it within a set timeframe; SCCA driver training and autocross on the 1/4-mile, on-site road course; get togethers at the hotel in the evening; a great mix of imported "original" marques both vintage and late model British, European and Asian vehicles, etc.
Register at gate 3 (see Carlisle site for directions), you'll get a schedule and other things when you register, the first 1300 arrivals get a goody bag and dash plaque. Stop by the Speedsters hospitality tent - you won't miss us - and we'll have a schedule posted.
Still have questions? POst them below or send me or Alan Merklin an e-mail.
