Brian: I'll also mention the "Speedsters Meet Spyders at Carlisle 2009" thread as the complete schedule for our part of the event. There is also a LOT of stuff going on that is run by Carlisle Events which a few of us get involved with; winery tours, wine tastings, a chili cook-off, specialty car events, an autocross and on and on.

We'll be going as a group on Friday to visit the premier Antique Auto Club of America museum in Hershey, PA, about an hour away from the hotel. That should take most of the mid-day. Cost per person for that trip is around $8 each. That will be followed by lunch at a 50's style soda shoppe and then return to the show field to register for the show.

What I've found over the years is that the spouse equivalents have been having better and better times each year, as we've been involving them more and not doing highly technical "car stuff" so the event appeals to all. That, plus we're a pretty mellow group and we all are there to have a good time, a lot of laughs and just meet each other, many for the first time (athough we type at each other a lot).

General costs in U$D (bear in mind; most of us are pretty cheap):

Hotel: $110 per night
Breakfasts at the show: About $6-10, depending on size of "sammich"
Lunch: Usually well under $10
Nightly Dinners: About $15-25 each with tips and stuff
Show registration: 3-day pass for $15 - complete!
All the usually extraneous stuff: Another $50 or so.

I think that should cover it. Decide how many days you want to be there and do the math.

Drive time from Niagara Falls (US side) to Hotel Carlisle from Mapquest): 6 hours (would seem like you're just getting going and then you're there....)

Hope to see you - we need a bigger Canuck contingent!!

Those prices sure beat the heck out of up here! But I usually rate places on the beer scale which, of course, is the cost of a beer. Up here, the beer scale is off the scale with a pint usually between $8-$12 depending on the brand. And if there is an event you can bet the price goes up.

That's why Portugal is one of my favourite places to go. Last year a glass of beer at the international Mediterranean Festival was 1 Euro or about $1.55 Cdn. Can't beat that at an event. Went to Bonaire once and a case of "baby" cans (6 or 8 oz) of beer was US $50 at the store. That's too high on the beer scale for me...

So, on the beer scale how does Carlisle rate?
On the beer scale there are some really great opportunities. Danny P. should be bringing some in buckets (or maybe jugs). All you need is a mug or paper cup. (That of course is for the round table discussion held at the motel in the evening). For the more conservative members, there's a cooler or two or more of bottled commercial stuff from which those present are permitted to reach at will. (I assume in your cultural circles it's customary to pack a cooler as a necessary part of travel luggage).
Actually I think its illegal to pack a cooler of beers in your vehicle here.

In the old days I recal lining the front trunk of a friends Fiat X1/9 with two inch styrofoam and srewing a bottle opener on the bottom of the hood. Kept ice and beer cold for a whole weekend at Mosport and you never misplaced the opener.

Most places in Canada I believe its illegal to consume alcohol other than in your home or a licensed establishment. If you are camping then your campground/camper/RV is considered your home. I don't think a speedster could be considered a camper??

In fact I think there are still some laws on the books that require you to go right home after purchasing liquor and also say that you can not bring bottles to someone's house. They can come and get them from your house but you can't take them to theirs. Used to be that way although not often enforced....not sure now.

At any rate, that sounds like the event registers low (which is high) on the beer scale.
Done that Mike....

In Germany a few years ago the local RC church was commissioning a new organ (cue Vince...) and they had a beer tent on the grounds complete with band, dancing, food, etc. All paid by the Roman Catholic church. Although I did buy a couple of pipes from the old organ that was being used for fund raising...

My friend lives beside the church so we went to the beer tent after the ceremony...the whole neighbourhood was there. Preteens served the beer till the wee hours. Teens, of course, drank the beer like the rest of us. We finished up about 2 am, went back to my friend's house for breakfast then went to the airport to catch a 6 am flight to Portugal. Was a rough 1st day at the beach. Damn organized religions!
I seem to remember some of the Canadians bringing some of their beer down to Carlisle for every meet I've been to, so they're getting it there somehow....

Chris usually brings some microbrew from Massachusetts, Danny brings jugs of his home brew that is POTENT stuff (I heard that he may be bringing a small keg this year) and I tote along a case of Murphy's Stout, and we usually have a BUNCH of other micros and so forth. I can't remember actually paying for a lot of beer there.....

OK guys... I don't have any specials on beer, but I just got thru carrying 2 'boxes' (equivalent of 4 bottles worth in each box.) and 2 bottles of REALLY GOOD (& CHEAP!) wine back from Milan, Italy. and it was only 25Euro (about $35) Of course, these will be long gone by May, but I have lots of Milan trips! If anyone else is a wine drinker, I will be sure to bring some back for Carlisle! Plus, if anyone ever gets over to Milan... this place is great. Aaron Buussolo is the owner and is a really cool guy. Gives tastings of all the wines & olive oils (also, to die for, they are so good!)

Here's the site in case anyone gets to Milan!
