Speaking of Knotts (Don), take a Friday or Saturday night, a few dozen lonely, horney airmen stationed in remote Alaska and loaded up on Falstaff or Olympia, a 25 cent admission (popcorn for an extra dime) and play "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken" and you have a formula for some major entertainment. I think I almost wet my pants the first time I saw it.
Welllllll, since you mentioned Carlisle 2005 (I never miss an opening!) what say we start a discussion on the 2005 event. Planning will start again in a couple of months so what are everyone's thoughts on what to keep and perhaps what to change - schedule, events, locations, hotels, dinners, brands of beer, etc. I can't guarantee we'll implement ALL your suggestions but we're always open for ideas.
Bruce,

Can't wait for Carlisle! Here's a suggestion...

One of my favorite moments from Carlisle '04 was the Friday night when we all took off for the resturant in a line of 5 or 6 cars.

What do you think of a more organized cruise. Maybe Bill Drayer could plot a course that would take us for a nice 30-45 minute trip. Just think of it 20, 30 or even 40 Speedsters in a line cruising the countryside.

Does that hat light up? Even with a gentle glow, we could use him as the lead guy whom everyone would follow right to the restaurant.

Maybe even put directional lights on it so the guys way up back could see where the front of the convoy is going.........

Not only that, but with an LCD projector in the second car beaming on the back of the hat, he could provide real-time updates to the rest of the convoy; "Road Debris on Right, Cool Girl on Porch on Left", Cool Guy on Corner on Left (for the ladies in the group)" and so forth.

OR....going with Paul Harford's idea of a webcast of the event, put a small PC camera on the hat for a "Bird's Eye View" of the convoy as we're motoring along.

WOW! The possibilities are endless!!!
HossCam! What a great idea!

As far as a Friday Carlisle cruise goes, off the top of my head, 30-45 minutes could put us around Hershey. A semi-circle of Speedsters in front of AACA Headquarters and/or in front of the Hershey Hotel, just down the road, would make great photo ops. The "Soda Jerk" Restaurant(where all the local car clubs cruise in) is just around the corner in Hummelstown, as is ChoclateWorld. Lots of nice two lane state roads to get there as opposed to the interstates. Geez, I'm getting carried away, this trip may take a little longer. We'll come up with something. The Eastern Museum of Auto Racing is in close proximity to Carlisle also, I believe.

Actually, the Carlisle show organizes a cruise through the countryside late Saturday afternoon. A few years ago we participated, the cruise was open to all replicas and originals and we stopped at a drive-in theatre for free eats and drove through a small town where many of the locals were out on the sidewalks cheering the "parade". We didn't put this cruise on the schedule this year because it ended around the time of the planned Saturday evening dinner and we thought people would prefer to have time to cleanup, etc. before dinner.

This year many of the Speedsters went their seperate ways for Friday evening dinner but about 10 of us did cruise down Route 81 to a 50
We should also do a "cruise" around the fairgrounds, like the "hillclimb" we did last year. Just imagine over 50 (or 60, or 70) Speedsters winding their way from the designated area, around the grounds and back to our spots........check out the Fierro "donor" area, the "Cobra" area, the concession area (for Pork Rinds 'n Fries), swing by the hot swim suit contest, then come blasting down the hill to the SOC area. Beautiful!!
Oh....

Well.....OK, then.....no fairground cruisin.

BTW: Now that we've all been raving about how great a time we had, I bet more wives will want to come along in 2005 (I've already gotten THAT hint) so we may want to consider something non-Speedster for them to do during the day, if they wish.

I LIKE the idea of arriving on Thursday. Chris and I mentioned that on the (super-rainy) ride home. Then we could have THREE nites of cruisin to restaurants or other places in a group (or groups).

Carlisle '05 ...I will once again offer to assume the duties of hotel and dinner guest agent.
The Ramada Ltd. is fine as it has been for the NJ Replicar Club for the past few years and without any problems.
It appears that we might have a want for a different hotel with a gathering area to hang out, shoot the breeze and have a brew.
With this in mind, the Clarion Hotel and Convention Center just a minute further up the road from the Ramada.
The Clairion Hotel has 100 plus in the main building and two or three remote buildings. All have well lit parking that is set back from the highway. In addition, Their indoor pool, bar (yes bar) and dining are a plus.
This would be an excellent choice but this is depending on what additional activities are going on the same weekend at the Clairion. The NJRC relocated to the Ramada due to past years interference with school proms there on the same weekend. ...........your thoughts ?

Sunnyside for Saturday night dinner is already been reserved.
My thoughts after a very successful Speedsters at Carlisle '04 would be to arrive in Carlisle on Thursday and plan something for Thursday early evening, this would allow for our group to still participate at Rod's or a similar place on Friday evening .
"Blasting" around Carlisle Fairgrounds is frowned upon by the
"Rent a Cop Foundation"
I did same in a 350 hp T' Bucket after clinching a "sold deal" at Carlisle...After some 60' of rubber I was "asked" if I would entertain the thought of leaving .........
Ummm I was headed back home anyway :)
Cool!

I remember there being a lot of people at the hotel last May for the graduation somewhere nearby...

Considering the number of people we had sitting around 'til late out at the picnic tables out back, a bar might be a definite plus, and, of course, a well lighted lot!

I don't get the feeling that we're a "Wild Bunch" as a group (a well-cultivated facade, if you ask me...) so we would probably be OK just cruising the grounds, but how about all gettig together at a hotel lot after Breakfast to cruise to the fairgrounds as a group and all arrive together (pulling in and parking neatly in our rows, of course).

I think THAT would be a pretty cool statement that "The SPEEDSTERS have arrived!"
I'm with Bob on the Thursday arrival. Although my plans were foiled in 2004, they included staying in a motel on route which would leave me with a short drive the next day. But what the hey, why not just go the distance the first day and have another day in Carlise with the bros and sisters. Good plan!

A couple of questions for those who did make it this year:

1. Did you keep an overnight watch to safeguard our rides? I remember that was discussed.

2. The spousal unit issue - My bride and others, I suspect, might want to have alternate activities during the day, but if you only have the Speedster, how do they handle getting around? Also, should this be organized in some way? I'm sure most of the guys will be happy to rubberneck, scratch, kick tires and drink beer.
John
Bruce makes a good point about staying close to the fairground area. I'll have to check into some things closer. I'm not to familiar with things over there on that side of the river. I maybe can connect with some co-workers and friends who live over that way for some info.
We maybe could cruise Rt. 34 out of Gate #3 and up over Sterrets Gap mountain into Perry county and loop our way back for a nice ride. Not much traffic and only 2 redlights in the whole county. None of which we would see. There's a few "watering holes" along the way too.
The Fall Collector Car Show is over there this weekend. I may go Sat. weather permitting. I'll ask around for some trip tips.

I'm glad to see so much interest in Carlisle already, I don't think we even announced the gathering until later than this last year!

John,
In planning for this year's Carlisle meet, I asked my wife about some sort of gathering for the right-seaters - bingo, sewing circle, gab session, crafts show, meet-and-greet, etc. - after she un-wrinkled her nose she said not-to-worry, they'd figure it out (then mumbled something about wanting to take a few laps around the Carlisle roadcourse with our Speedster). Several wives found a wife with a non-Speedster last year and drove into town for some shopping and lunch. So, maybe they can do the same this year or arrange public transportation such as a taxi or bus. We could also plan a drop-off and pickup cruise into town. Another option is a pool party if Alan gets a hotel with an indoor pool.

All,
I'm up for arriving Thursday too.
