I'll try to park the "Speedster Support Vehicle" aka M/Home in a strategic spot where we can gather to burn some fine tobacco.
Looking at the aerial picture this should be no problemo.

With only about 90 rooms, and us filling 40, we will all but have this place to our selves. Parking to the side is 4 rows deep so the cars will be kept together instead of spread all over as at Hotel Carlisle.

The Hotel is a bit farther from Carlisle, but there a number of routes to get to the show field. From fast hi-way to nice scenic secondary routes thru Mechanicsburg, it's gonna be FUN!
Is it too early to get pumped up about Carlisle 2012? Nahhh!

WOO HOO--I was just wondering when we would start looking forward to the egg sammiches so here we go!

And what a great rate too, $112 is a real deal for a Marriott property. Good job on that, Dr!

I am psyched and really looking forward to this premier event. Plus rumor has it that we're expecting some left-coasters too.

Looking forward to hearing some details as they are available.
There is a glitch for those coming up from the south in that the Fairfield Inn in Christiansburg is booked solid for Wednesday night the 16th. Apparently, it is prom night and they are sold out. I did book for the 20th for the return trip with no problem.

Since Christiansburg seems to be a convenient stopping place, especially for those coming farther than I am, may I suggest some alternatives. There is a Days Inn, an Econolodge and a Holiday Inn Express, all within a short drive of the Fairfield and on the same street (ie. easy access to I-81). Any of these may be an OK substitute, but my money would be on the Holiday Inn. What do you guys think?
Hoss
I'm booked in the Holiday Inn. It's just a little ways past the Fairfield and on the same side of the street. And yes, breakfast is included in the rate as it is at Fairfleld. You'll probably want to fuel up at the Shell station before checking in so you don't have to do that scarey intersection twice in the morning rush hour.
Nice work Alan. Thanks. The weekend gets better every year, we'll soon have it almost perfect! :>) The biggest gripe we've had in the past was the Hotel Carlisle and you've solved that one.

All - Don't delay making your hotel reservations and let us know in this thread when you have so we can increase the number of rooms Alan has blocked out if needed. Watch for the weekend schedule to be announced in another thread soon.

I should be booking soon, but still on the fence. Jan is not keen on the new Hersey Factory tour, it nothing more than a big Candy store with a little history walk, the ride through the factory has been discontinued and in my opinion it's not worth the price of admission now. Has anyone any ideas of how to keep the ladies entertained while we walk and gawk at the camp grounds? Heaven forbid that Vince makes any suggestions.

The Gettysburg tour is mostly walks through the fields and history offered to groups by Park Rangers, if American history is your nitch you''ll enjoy it.

That would be like "Little Red Riding Hood" leaving bread crumbs along the way ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Yes ....book early.... I can increase the room block but would have to do so early on as this hotel books quickly for Carlisle events

To each his own, I guess. Google Gettysburg battlefield tours and you can get an idea about what you can see. They have a good museum, a cyclorama, audio or guided tours, bus tours or double deckers with guides and a selection of how much detail you want,so it can be brief or thorough as you like. One quote from a Gettysburg search was "The U.S. Park Service has hit a home run".

Sounds like a very worthwhile day and a chance to see how and where the final nail was put into in the Confederate coffin.

I had a great grandfather who fought at Chancellorville with the 21st Georgia so although I'm not a civil war nut, this would be interesting to me. (Or, as some Southerners called the civil war, "the recent unpleasantness".)
Ok, Alice and I are all set with hotels:

Wed, 5/16/12 Holiday Inn, Exit #118 off I-81, Roanoke Street,
Christiansburg, VA

Th, Fri, Sat, 5/17-5/19/12 Marriott Express, Mechanicsburg, PA

Hoss--hope to see you and Sarah in Lenoir city 5/15 for our regular dinner! We'll be at the Hampton Inn.

Let the good times roll!!
Hi Jack. The calendar looks open for 5/15. It is a long way off but I will endeavor to keep it that way. I'll be traveling solo once again. Sigh! Sarah will be in Texas during the latter part of our Carlisle adventure since Lillian is doing an iron man (woman?). Lillian knows how much this trip means to me, so she gave her blessing to my going.
