Watch for the "Speedsters Meet Spyders" tent on the showfield again this year!  I just sent in our application for our own 20' x 30' tent on the showfield.  We will enjoy this service free of charge again this year because we had more than 50 owners registered with the "Speedster Owners" club for the 2013 show.

We'll also be ordering some extra chairs and tables (not free of charge) for everyone's relaxation and comfort under the tent.  (Note: If you have room, please bring your folding chairs too.

Total registrations also put us in the running for the Club Challenge (most replica club registrations) which our group has won the past 10 years.

So, lets' keep up the numbers - don't forget to register your club as "Speedster Owners" when you register with Carllsle.

Thanks Bruce. Good to know. Not knowing, I just registered without affiliation.

Looking forward to seeing everyone's work.

Other than the one I bought, I've only seen one other up close. It was awesome -and I don't use that word like water. Like Jeff Foxworthy says about the overuse of "awesome" ..."If Shanaya Twain showed up at my door with a note from my wife saying "Have fun!" THAT would be awesome." This car was awesome.

Can't wait...

Carlisle is celebrating its 40th year so it should be another good weekend.  I received the following letter from the owners:

"It's not often that a company is fortunate to have an opportunity to celebrate 40 years of business.  Carlisle Events has grown from a single event in 1974 to the host of 14 automotive events per season.  We have built relationships, friendships and partnerships.  We have watched our guests go from being pulled in a wagon by their parents, to purchasing their very first car from our car corral.  We have shared stories, made memories and watched as that long-lost part was found in our swap meet finally making heir dream come true.

2014 marks the 40th anniversary of Carlisle Events and we can't tell you how excited we are to hare it with you and your club members.  We want to cordially invite you and your members to celebrate our 2014 season with us.  This year will host incredible displays, significant anniversaries and showfields filled with cars that are not only going to turn heads, but will truly imspire the car lover in all of us.  We truly value and appreciate our club memberships and look forward to making these relationships even bigger and better over the next 40 years!  Thank you for your continued support and here's to 2014!!"

From Carlisle Events:

"As we march closer to the always-popular Carlisle Import & Kit Nationals weekend, we are also locking down many more great aspects for the event itself. First, our band schedule is starting to come together as is the seminar schedule. We've even been fortunate to lock in some special cars for display. You won't want to miss out on all of this and more. Plus, you have just about one month remaining to save 10% via Gate-N-Go. Don't forget, you can save time too as we'll mail your window sticker and applicable event paperwork weeks in advance. Registration allows for event access for two plus onsite parking. You just can't beat a deal like this. Why wait in line and pay full price when you can register now and save! Call 717-243-7855 or register online today."

Not yet registered for Carlisle? Here's what you need to do:

Live Music Back on Multiple Stages

"What would an international automotive festival be without some nice background music to accompany you as you walk the fairgrounds? This year, the band line-up features many new faces and a few familiar ones as well. Announced to date are the LUV Gods, Honeypump, Daisy Cutter and the KB Bluez Band. KB is a regular at Carlisle, while the rest are new additions to our live music schedule. Not only will the bands play throughout the weekend, they will play multiple sets. Further, there are at least two stages hosting music with a third likely too. The live music is always fun from a festival standpoint as the mix of blues, jazz and rock propel you from checkpoint to checkpoint. Keep visiting the event web page for updates on the bands as they become available."

Caravans to Carlisle

For anyone considering the trip to Carlisle, there are always caravans of owners coming from several different directions. If you're concerned about doing the drive solo, join a caravan.  This is a great opportunity to cruise with a group - safety in numbers. If you've never been to Carlisle and don't know anyone in the caravan, don't worry, I guarantee – this is a great group of people and you'll make friends that will last many years.

We are currently aware of three caravans being organized with people starting out as far away as California, Florida, Texas, Vermont and running through many other states. Check out these threads for more information:

Awards

The Speedsters Meet Spyders event is not a judged, competitive show - if you can get your Speedster, Coupe, Cabriolet or Spyder there - regardless of its condition - bring it. But every year we do strive to recognize the folks who travel the longest distances. So there will be awards for the longest distance driven by a Speedster and a Spyder, the longest distance trailered by a Speedster and a Spyder and the longest distance traveled by a Coupe. We also award the longest distance traveled for an MG replica since those guys have been cruising with us the past couple of years working to grow their group.

Drive 'em, trailer 'em, tow 'em but get them there somehow!

A Pre-War Import display is planned this year:

From Carlisle Events...

"Cars of a certain age are becoming more scarce from a show standpoint. Many are in a museum by now and that means if people want to see great pre-war examples of craftsmanship, they have to go to the car. This year, we're asking that you bring the car to us and the automotive world. If you have a pre-war import, we'd love to see it firsthand. Contact event manager Ed Buczeskie today for details on how you can highlight your pre-war gem at Carlisle in May. This special display is guaranteed to draw enthusiasts from all points of the grounds. Call Ed today at 717-243-7855 x131 or e-mail EdB@CarlisleEvents.com "

" LUV Gods, Honeypump, Daisy Cutter" Really? I'll bring a fistful of one dollar bills then -and a Hawaiian shirt, and a cooler with some beer, and a large memory card from my camera to get(steal) ideas from all your sweet rides, and some aspirin and champagne for mimosa in the mornings when you know, and...

Looking forward to it...

Thanks Bruce. I also want to note that the Autocross is available on Saturday and Sunday all day. They go in time slots of 8 cars, it would be great to fill an entire time-slot with "us knuckleheads". Last year I jumped in with the MG guys and had an absolute blast. I'll be going again this year so anybody else feel free to join. I'd like to go Saturday late morning if possible. $25 a head for three runs of three laps each.

RE: helmets. They are available from the SCCA guys at Carlisle. If you bring your own it must be a Snell-rated 2005 or newer, or SFI Foundation rated(Bell and G-Force). Older or DOT cert not approved. I'm planning to buy my own, I didn't really enjoy using the sweaty ones they had last year.....

TIC TOC...

Just 21 days!

The Speedsters Meet Spyders gathering starts May 15 but the deadline to get your RSVP and $ submitted is May 2nd.  Why the deadline?  Well, there is always advance planning and we are required to commit to advance head counts to the Caddy Shack, the National Museum and the caterer for our Gala Saturday evening Awards dinner.  So we can't guarantee including you if we don't know you're coming.

So don't delay, print out that RSVP form, fill it out, send it in with your check or money order - you'll be so glad you did.   Don't miss out on the biggest event of it's kind in the USA or maybe even the world!

Special Nissan Display Planned

From Carlisle Events...

"The Nissan brand has been producing popular cars for decades and we are always fortunate to have some nice ones in Carlisle each May. With that in mind, we are happy to announce that Nissan will be bringing six cars from its Heritage Collection. That means you'll see six historically significant beauties at Carlisle. Plus, in addition to the heritage display from Nissan, we've partnered with Brenner Nissan from nearby Mechanicsburg who will perfectly compliment the past with a fine display of new Nissan cars. Better yet, Nissan is working to bring a pre-production Versa ST to Carlisle too. The weekend highlights automotive history and this showcase is a prime example of it."
