Uh-OH! Looks like the KitCar segment have been dropped from the show!
This could be a problem as they have included the ricer fart can crowd.
We may well lose our parking area but not sure. The registration process may be a bit different. Sorry to say it could be the end of an era as we know it.

This Carlisle page states our weekend was supposed to be May 13-15 but the schedule i posted above does not show it.

Just talked to Dr. Clock. He's going to call the Carlisle people tomorrow.
STAY TUNED!
I'm not real happy that the event coordinator didn't give us the heads up regarding this. We do have the hotel on the hook as of now!

I received a message a few days ago that the Import and tuner pages on Facebook were being merged.
If they are putting us back with the tuner crowd for the show weekend...that really s--ks big time. Big Time!
The tuner crowd started as an add-on to the Import/Kit Car weekend many years ago.
The local police never had as much trouble with the attendee crowd as they did during the 2003 show weekend. As I recall it, the Carlisle police and Middlesex Township police made about 200 arrests each.
As an attendee at the show, it was horrible. That pounding bass line you sometimes hear at a stop light? Multiply it by a couple hundred. And then add in the stereo "volume" contest for not-so-good measure.
Carlisle Productions got smart and moved the tuner show off the fairgrounds and into an indoor venue.
Recombining these shows is a bad bad bad move on Carlisle's part.

Well if the Carlisle folks don't want us anymore we can make our own event. The would give us some choice regarding date and venue.
What lane said *2
If I have to listen to hip hop and pounding bass that weekend, Im not going!!!! The ricer/street racers can have the weekend without me. Im not going to bash them, its just not my style. If the date is different, Im all in!! Please let everyone know whats going on. Im sure many of us are waiting to hear
Im with Lane on this
Intermeccanica puts on a great weekend every year - just IM owners.
We can do the same for just SOC people. We don't need a big fair ground to have a good time.
I realize that it may take some time to reach consensus on this issue, but, for those of us who live WAAAAAY outside the area, advance notice is critical. I plan to attend Carlisle in 2016, and would need to know in a couple of months what the group will do, as I need to make airline reservations, plan for time off, then drive from California to Pennsylvania. Of course, no matter what is decided, some people will do what they want to. Hopefully, the ensuing debate will end up with majority support. I don't personally care if the group decides on Carlisle or not, but I hope we have a gathering, so I can finally put faces with names, before I get to the point where I have trouble remembering my name.
To save Jim Kelly the drive from California, I think you should consider moving the Carlisle event out here.
We already have two nice California SOC events to choose from - one in early summer and one in the fall.
The west coast has the sunshine and the girls all get so tan. I wish they all could be... oh wait, where was I?
Oh right, move the event out here and we could ALL get together in one national event - and Stan could get his cross-country drive in, all at the same time.
I, for one, Welcome our ricer overlords.
Yes. Our own event. Preferably in central east coast. Nothing against Cali. But a bit too far to drive.
Well if the Carlisle folks don't want us anymore we can make our own event. The would give us some choice regarding date and venue.
Lane's suggestion is a good one. Back in 2005, when I attended the west coast show, most of the attendees were displeased with the shabby treatment our group was given. From that point forward, many left hand-crafted associations show in favor of our their own gathering that included some actual drives and not sitting sweltering on a hot asphalt parking lot. Based upon Jimbo's video, I'd say what has transpired since then has been a rousing success. Maybe the "show within a show" should become just a gathering of the Speedster faithful.
An East Coast event in May is great for starting off the driving season, especially for the northern folk. Should a change be necessary - and I say should, because all the facts aren't out yet - the same time of year should be kept.
The show field was interesting.... once.
This past year, I drove my daily driver due to the roads and weather and left on Saturday morning. Show field day is not that interesting to me, and while I like the banquet, I'd rather get home.
Carlisle has been a super organized event with lots of energy put into the banquet, the awards, etc. Can't say enough good about it.
However, I would welcome a rotating event that happens at different locations where we could meet, drive, and see some new things during a timeframe when the weather is better.

Hang in the all I will call Carlisle Productions and find out the real story today, we have been an anchor group for the Import Show...stay tuned and stay calm.
I guess if we went to a "private" event such as the Cali guys do, there're be some impact on the Speedster vendors such as IM and Beck too.
Waiting on a call back from Carlisle Productions
Good point. Probably no vendors. I do like seeing new creations. And its nice talking with Henry and Carey.
I find it amusing that many replica owners take offense at the term "kit car". Yet, Carlisle, the Holy Grail and annual meet-n-greet, lists our annual event as the kit car and import show.
Well if the Carlisle folks don't want us anymore we can make our own event. The would give us some choice regarding date and venue.
I would try a lot harder to come to such an event than I have with Carlisle. A "car-show" with a bunch of Cobras in Pennsylvania in May (spotty weather, etc.) has just never really tripped my trigger.
An SOC specific meet in the Eastern Smokies or Appalachians in early June sounds waaaaay better to me.
I would love to see it move a little south into the mountains. I hope the guys who've had it in their back yards for all these years would still come if it were a bit further from them. Just don't make it later in the summer as it's already getting pretty warm down this way by mid-May. June could be pretty hot.
Let's wait and see what Alan finds out.
Looking forward to hearing what Al has to report after his conversation with Carlisle Producitons.
Meanwhile, nothing wrong with stirring the pot. ;-)
Ed, you welcoming attitude is a wonderful thing. Quite admirable frankly.
But you weren't there in 2003.
It was a horror show, not a car show. Ask the other import owners. Ask the kit car owners. Ask the Carlisle staff. And mostly, ask the local law enforcement.
All that said, it's CP's business, and their's to do with what they want.
If they combine shows in 2016, I'd give it one shot. It it works great. If it doesn't, we begin plans for a 2017 East Coast gathering on our own.
Just my two cents.
To be quite honest I'm surprised you guys gather so fervently each year for a car show. I haven't been there so there could be something I'm missing. But having been to an SOC only gathering here on the West Coast I can tell you how much I enjoyed the weekend. The sole purpose of us getting together was to hang out with our "Online Club Members", enjoy great food and drinks, and get some awesome driving in.
The format is easy, although setting it up takes some work. You pick a hotel, arrange a great group price, design a great drive with some interesting venues along the way, and enjoy the weekend.
We met Friday throughout the day, gathered for drinks and dinner the first evening. Arose on Saturday morning and had a good breakfast, met at a nearby parking lot for the driver's meeting and route discussion, set out for an hour or two of driving, met at one of the MANY Central Coast wineries, and enjoyed some great wine tasting and snacks. After hanging out for an hour or so we took off on another leg of the trip for another hour or so of driving, and landed at another great CC winery for a live band, wine tasting, and lunch.
You hang out there for a couple hours and then we got to the real driving. More spirited twisties in the CC mountains with a long stretch running along the Pacific Ocean back to the hotel. Everyone, including Vinny, got cleaned up and we met again at the pool for cocktails (free beer) and conversation. Then we walked to a local restaurant that sat our entire group together and we had a great dinner and then a lively raffle. There was no walking around a hot parking lot looking at anything.
The company of the group couldn't have been any better and we got to do what we gathered for: meeting old friends and making new ones, great food and beverages, and some great driving.
You guys really should organize something more like that. It sounded like Alan, or maybe it was Gordon, was putting one together with the Pumpkin Run. That to me seems more like what it's about.
I know here in the Central Valley there is a big group of us and we get together for a quick breakfast/lunch and a short (say 75-100 mile) drive almost monthly.
OK, if we can't coax you folks out to sunny California, and if Carlisle is a good compromise location for the east coast, how about nearby Hersheypark?
Tons of facilities and they already host a number of car show events that accommodate vendors. You could join one of those events or create your own.
I spent the first 30 years of my life in or near Philly, and the rural roads in eastern PA make for great sports car driving.
Just saying.
Hmm.
Kit cars welcome and judged. Looks like my water cooled VW 356 would be welcome. Don't know about subys.
Robert, what you describe is pretty much the same as a Carlisle gathering with the added bit of having a lot of interesting cars to look at besides ours. It also lets us see what the manufacturers are up to and what may be coming out soon. Most of the time we are doing cruises, dinners, and general socializing, with the Carlisle show as a backdrop only. It's all about the people - well, mostly. We do like the cars, too.
While we're waiting on a call back from Carlisle Productions, let me remind you that the behind the scenes preparation for our annual Carlisle long weekend takes extensive planning to pull off a flawless weekend and we are lucky to have Bruce and Norma dedicated their time each year. We already have secured a 2016 Court Yard Hotel contract Banquet plans in place.
Do...be patient while in Bruce's absence I look into this. tnx! Alan
When I lived in VA I'd always post then the then Old Dominion Raceway (Manassas) Bug Outs events. A few SOCers did attend - many actually won plaques (Schu, Syl-Maggi, Chuck M). Believe they don't admit non-VW engines though. Its a single day event. Lots of old crusty VW parts in flea market - Miss Bug Out (for the old gizzers). It has moved south from Manassas - neighbors complained of noise (why did you buy next to a race track?). Was worth a 45 drive but not a 3+ hour one.
Last couple years I've driven 18 hours to Carlisle --- just for the Egg Samiches! One day I'll drag the Speedie there.
Ok, I have never been to any Speedster events but I have attended Shelby Car Club of America(SCCA) events that feature both original and kit Cobras, original and clone Shelby GT cars, GT-40's and Daytona coupes. The SCCA holds these events in many areas of the country every year, Phoenix, Reno and Las Vegas and once at Infineon race track in CA were ones I've attended--great shows with numerous vendors where you can look over all the new goodies and cars available as well as seeing both original and kit or clone versions of Cobras etc. Also there were fun runs to put your car on the tracks or just cruise around--my Favorite was Reno, get a few friends together and cruise the mountain roads. SCCA also has banquets/bbq's and seminars you can attend, often presented by some of the original Shelby designers, mechanics, drivers etc. on how to improve your car for the road or the track, safety issues, etc..
Another event I attend with the Cobra almost yearly is the London, OH Spring Fling for Cobras, Mustang GT clones, GT-40's and Daytona coupes. A very fun event with cruises, shows, bbq's. It draws attendees from both coasts, the southeast and southwest as it is more centrally located. Anywhere from 4-600 cars attend every year. Ever see 500 Cobras cruising down the interstate, 2 abreast, escorted by the OSP doing 80-90mph from Columbus to London--a sight to see and be a part of
That being said I truly think the SoCal group has the right idea for a fun event, drive, go on cruises, meet new and old friends, enjoy good food and libations, see other makes of Speedsters for a few days. Yes it is nice to have vendors present but would not present a problem if they weren't there IMO.
For me having one event on the east coast each year is not a good fit having to drive more than halfway across the country to attend with a car or flying in and then renting one plus hotel etc. is not something I'd like to do more than once being from Colorado--And the west coast guys--yikes, what a trip that'd be!
SOC members ought to really gather together in their own areas and have an event or two like the SoCal group does...IMO...That is what the Cobra Clubs do around the country, then occasionaly meet together at an SCCA event or in London, Oh.
Just my opinion...
