OK Gordo, you are on official notice. I assume you have the vaccine and so would technically be out of reasonable excuses. And we will not accept any unreasonable ones. So there. Be there or be square. or ... Be theah o' be squa-ah.
PS Kelly's car is so fast because he has a lead foot. And is trying to keep up with Danny.
et al. I’ve made a reservation for one at the hotel. Arriving Thursday and departing Sunday morning. Planning on driving my Speedster up from Washington DC.
Alan, please add me to all the planned meetups and dinner venues. I don’t want to miss a thing.

What COVID measures, if any, will be in place at the restaurant?
What is the deadline for dinner payment?
I really, really want to attend but I fear it will be a daunting task to convince my wife that it would be a good idea. Right now, Michigan has the greatest increase in cases in the country. I am hoping things look more positive as I procrastinate.

Most will have received their shots before Carlisle ..........
I was in Florida last week where masks are optional, servers wore masks, customers did not. Hence, it's a personal decision.
Restaurants around here require that you wear masks when you are not seated at your table with food or drink. I imagine that will be pretty universal even if you are vaccinated just because it's hard to have two sets of rules enforced in a place like a restaurant. I can certainly live with that.
The virus is height sensitive

C'mon folks, y'all step up now. I'm sure @chines1 and Mike Fincher will be there. I would certainly expect some more, but maybe they're waiting on vaccinations before registering.
Be sure to get your dinner reservations in for Saturday Night too. We are looking forward to getting back to some type of normalcy!

All signed up for Thursday through Sunday morning. Took the TDr out for the first time on Sunday for a 3 hour cruise and other then a loose fuel filter quickly fixed it is ready to go after a quick service.
Heads up - going to start a group drive thread from Northern VA\DC\Maryland and Southern PA soon so we can drive together if desired up to Carlisle. I know we have at least 3-4 TDr's and a couple speedsters from this area.
I may go up Wednesday but possibly Thursday due to weather. If Thursday, I'm game.
I’m in Arlington. Like you, driving up Thursday. Looking to take country roads as much as possible? Leesburg, Frederick, Thurmont, Gettysburg? Shall we caravan?
Marshall
15 should run you right to the hotel Marshall. Not enough "freeway" to find a way around. 70 & 15 would be the busiest area but if you time it right, may not be a big deal. From Arlington, that's what I would do.
That's my issue meeting up for a caravan. I cut up 100/29, then country roads northwest until we hit 15.
Schu
Glenn and I are heading up Wednesday. Been homebound too long.
Marshall
Have you gotten your car back yet? If so how do you like the exhaust note?
Glenn's friend Paul😁

Marshall
I think it's a really great exhaust system. I used it for a year and could never let it go.....so I suggested he try it on yours. I have heard it on yours. I wasn't wrong.Don't let him let you drive my car when you pick up yours. Or you will fall victim to "Welcome to the madness." If mine is ever finished. He's waiting for cylinder spacers and my new to me transmission. Finally, I am envious of your heat. Envision 65mph with the top down at less than 50°.🥶. You will probably see it when you pick up yours. See you in Carlisle PaulSent from my Galaxy
OK, so this clip is a few years old, but just to get the Carlisle excitement rolling along...
Are you going to grace us with your presence this year?
Paul
Marshall and others interested:
I always look for the best ride and stay off the big roads if possible. I think 15 was the way I went last time to that hotel the last time we did a meet up caravan. Up through Leesburg from the south and mostly just north up into PA
Carlisle: Courtyard Hotel ....Currently the room count is at 16, our contract calls for 30 as I chose that number based on the low room count from a previous year. The 30 is the minimum to enjoy the free breakfasts and free use of the Hospitality Suite and hopefully this will pick up this week.
Banquet dinner at Visaggio's.
I have received two (2) reservations to date, the contract calls for a minimum of 50 people. I've personally paid the $500 deposit to Visaggio's and certainly hope that there will be additional reservations made this week or we'll need to take another look at this.
Please take a moment to reserve your rooms and dinner reservations ... Thanks , Alan

Greetings,
Will be in Carlisle Thursday afternoon until noon Sunday.
This has probably (most likely) been asked and answered already but....
Do some members of the group actually take their cars and show them in the show? Is there a cost to do this? Can I wait until I arrive to decide?
Are there any other events or "things" that folks who've gone before sign up for or do? I'm aware of the banquet and the possibility of some group drives. Others?
Thanks,
Marshall
@Marshall
While not group activities, in past years my and I have made side trips to Hershey, Harrisburg, and Gettysburg. Also, since we head west to go home, we once stopped at Falling Water.
"Falling Water" designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.
Yes, it's well worth a side trip.
Another good side trip, depending on the Blue-Road routes you take, is the Civil War Battleground at Antietam.
Don't forget to sign up for a lifetime Senior Pass for the National Park system while visiting Antietam or Gettysburg. It's good at ANY National park.

@Alan Merklin, I assume you mean that if we don't have 30 rooms, no breakfast or hospitality? I don't personally care about the breakfast and cookies but is there a back up plan for the hospitality, just in case?
@Marshall Yes, generally a good number take their cars to the show field but many get the "non-judged" pass. Without a "judged" pass, your car will not be. The price is on the Carlisle website. I know some have done this but since it's a replica, you should level your expectations of winning anything on that.
It looks like there are group drives through the country planned. You could take runs to Gettysburg and Hershey as Mike suggested. I don't because I live close and have seen them all.
Speaking for myself, I am content with the company of the group. If anything, it feels like there isn't enough time to do much else than hang out, drink (if that is your thing), take drives (without drinking of course), look at other people's cars and go out for meals. Even though the "Banquet" is a planned thing, groups go out for meals every night.
Is a swap meet or vendor area part of the event?
@Chris MacDonald posted:@Alan Merklin, I assume you mean that if we don't have 30 rooms, no breakfast or hospitality? I don't personally care about the breakfast and cookies but is there a back up plan for the hospitality, just in case?
No back up plan as of yet for the Hospitality room. We still have some time so I am hoping we'll get more commitments for the rooms.
Thanks Chris.
I’ll lower my expectations and just look forward to hangin out with a gaggle of gear heads.
@Marshall - Very few of us bother with getting judged. Some folks spend a couple of days on the showfield while others of us only spend one and do cruises the rest of the time. We're there for the people, not so much the show. You can pay when you get there the first day, so no rush.
@wrkinprogress - Yes, although it has shrunk a bit in recent years. It's still pretty large.
@Marshall To be clear, I meant no disrespect to your car or anyone else's. This particular Carlisle event is a weird gaggle of cars that we got stuck in. I assume because there was nowhere else to put us and there simply aren't enough replicas to have a dedicated show, not that they probably would. The "import" part of the Import and Tuner show is a catchall for those that don't fit into the Chevy, Ford, etc. events.
There are old: Volvos, Porsches, Audis, Mercedes, etc. along with the tuner cars. There are thousands of cars on the field and judges are simply particular about replicas, especially when stacked up against some truly great examples of old import cars.
There was a dedicated show for "kit cars" in the past but with declining numbers that was discontinued.
I got an email from the Carlisle folks today and they are still offering a 10% discount for showfield registration.
They need to be mailing those out soon for those of us who have already registered.
Please, everyone, buy the ticket and come to the show! Meaning the SHOW FIELD.
We have a dedicated "pop up" canopy and tables and chairs supplied to us, free of charge, on the showfield. We get this courtesy because we have, in the past, been well up among the LARGEST groups on the field at this show. I told the guy in charge that we were mustering up this year. Let's do it!
Yes, let's cruise around too—I'll be handing out maps and directions of a couple of stunning routes, one with a winery and the other with a brewery for lunch—but lets also all drive in and park on the grass for a while too. You never know what you're going to see or who you'll meet.
As most of you know, at the SHOWFIELD you will find a plethora of interesting veee-hicles, many home made, many others radically modded, some in the "old school" way and some other in the more contemporary style.
(The owner of this car explained that he bought it as an example of 1960s moral depravity, and drove it as a bit—and a cautionary tale to today's youths!)
It is not just the "fart can" crowd. The dune buggy guys make a showing, the some of the Porsche guys come. You see rows of old British iron. It's really fun for me to see the modern Suby guys get a load of the Sube jobs in our midst.
There are hundreds of interesting rides to check out just parked on the field...
to say nothing of the featured vehicles in the buildings.
My Spyder will be on display in Building T.
There is also a massive swap meet. I try to find at least an hour every year to browse the amazing array of old car parts and venders lined up behind the bleachers...
There is a small Auto-X track. The view is great from the hill above and for a few bucks you can run your car. @DannyP has done this a few times and some of my fellow TD guys have done it more than once. It's a hoot. They group you according to engine displacement and other stuff, per SCCA rules, and then time you and send the scores later so you can see who and what you beat or got trounced by.
There is food and beer and sody-pop. They station pretty young women all around and encourage you to get them to stamp your book, which puts you in the running for the raffle.
There is the low car limbo. The 2019 winner was home-made:
And of course there's all of us! Pull up a chair, sit in the shade and tell stories. Get some ice cream! It's good!
