We did the self-guided tour of Gettysburg. Parking is on the side of the road for most of it. It's interesting for sure.

Karyn and I may be out on this part. My car is loud at park speeds and I would hate to disturb families on their vacation.

A lot of biker groups go to Gettysburg they are respectful " reverent" throttle wise.....

Yes, everyone! Please be ready to enjoy. Carlisle raffle will be after dinner on Saturday. I think everyone knows the drill: You bring an item—could be anything from a swaybar to a bottle of wine to a detailer kit to a custom print or painting—put it on the table and buy a raffle ticket (5 for $10, I think). Then we pull numbers until everyone's won and grabbed a prize. The money goes into a special account Bruce started years ago to cover club expenses at Carlisle. It keeps the scene afloat.

After the raffle we'll do the awards for Best Actor, Best Country Performance By A Non-Country Performer, High Bowling Score, etc.

Thanks, Ed.  Where do all the early arrivers want to go for dinner Wednesday.  I know I'll be hungry.  I'll be leaving home a week from tomorrow and taking a three day trip up wide side visits to friends and family.

Did most of the prep for the car today - topping up of fluids, etc.  Need to center the steering wheel after setting toe.  I forgot to do that until after I'd taken a shower and wasn't interested in climbing back under the car.  After that it just needs a quick clean up and it'll be ready to go.

For everyone attending the weekend, leaving Carlisle/Mechanicsburg Sunday May 15 and heading south...

A friend has organized a brass-era car show at the Gettysburg Outlet Shoppes in Gettysburg.  There will be approximately eighty-five pre-1916 brass era cars on hand.  Admission is free.  Hours are 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.  The Outlet Shoppes are located at 1863 Gettysburg Village Drive Gettysburg, PA.  Drive time is about 40 minutes from the hotel.  This should be interesting to see and a chance for some great photography. We can caravan there if anyone is interested.  There is also a good restaurant on the premises - Mela Kitchen @ Jack's Cider House - and they also sell some great hard cider.

Thanks for the replies.  Sadly, I have to work on Friday and Sunday, so I could drive out Saturday as it is only 3 hours away and have a look around.  Seems someone stated they only saw one Speedster at the show.  That would be a bummer.  I guess I could swing by the hotel at some point and see if any are there.  Been reading a lot about the different makers.  Leaning towards a Beck with Subaru with 5speed, but open to other ideas.

Thanks again for the comments earlier in this thread.  Looks of good information here.

Alan's right.  Last year we did cruises and if the person who posted the "only one Speedster" comment was there while we were driving, they didn't see the whole group.  This year we have a long Friday cruise and some of us may also do a drive on Saturday before hitting the showfield.  Here are a few I took - mostly of my new car - but you can see some of the others.Carlisle 2021-6Carlisle 2021-7Carlisle 2021-8

I haven't shown up at the fairgrounds since 2017 when we had just finished the new Spyder.

Last year was a mis-communication between @LI-Rick and myself.

We go to PA to visit the people, and the clown cars, and drive with them, drink, and eat.

I used to REALLY enjoy the AutoX and the vendors/swap area at the fairgrounds. It is a different crowd now, not old VW stuff at all.

Some of us like hanging at the fairgrounds and checking out all the other crazy cars.

(Quiz: What car is this?)

There is an auto-cross track and you can run it for a small fee. IT's a lot of fun to compete against cars in your own weight/power class, and the spectators absolutely go gaga over stuff like what we drive.

One year like 5 of us MG TD guys ran the course, one particular member, Bill Ascheman, built it TD as an auto-x car and actually won his SCCA division with it back in the day. He's since turned it into a hillclimb car complete with Ford 302....

(Photo: AutoX Paddock)

There's always a little crowd on the hill overlooking the track cheering folks on; if you've never tested the limits of your car's lateral grip, that auto-x track is a great place to do so (it's for safety, dear!). It's a very short track (2nd gear will do ya) and so dangerous mishaps are very rare.

(Photo: rare, but not unheard-of)

The Fast & Furious kids also attempt a "drifting" event which is actually hilarious to watch (albeit loud). Turns out it's reeeealy hard to actually control a car you're also trying to make skid.

There's the Low Car Limbo as well which is a total goof...

...which SoC members tend to do well in.

And this year there will be valve cover racing.

SoC will have a canopy and a table with a few extra folding chairs. Most bring their own camp chairs and we'll see about getting a cooler or two in there with some cold ones in it & snax.

Maybe we can even run the group up on the hill for a picture.

It looks like I am going to be cutting it to the wire to bring the Magnum to Carlise. I took the car into the shop 2 weeks ago to have the AC repaired. I also wanted them to look at a small leak in the oil cooler line while they had it. I would have fixed this myself but since they had the car I thought I would let them do it. The AC condenser turned out to be clogged and they sent it out to be repaired, in hindsight I should have ordered a new one. We kept getting the being finished tomorrow routine from the company cleaning the condenser. It finally arrived back today and that was good news and then I was told the mechanic broke the oil cooler end off while tightening the new line on. I was just told they ordered a new oil cooler and it will arrive Monday. I thought taking the car in 3 weeks before Carlisle would be enough time. At this rate I may not be bringing the Magnum. If not I may bring the GT40 replica, I was told it was going to be finished tomorrow. I had custom car shop lengthen the wheel base by 1.5" or so to make it the same length as the original GT40 instead of the Fiero wheelbase. The parts they had fabricated were several weeks late. I was surprised to hear they came in today. I am sure many of you have had similar experiences heading up to an event. Is this supposed to be the fun part? I hope to see you all next week. Oh yes, the enclosed trailer I usually borrow was sold and I wound up buying a new 24 X 8.5 enclosed trailer last weekend. Now to have a car ready and running to haul in it.

I took the Spyder for a nice , long ride today. Still tweaking the EFI(I didn't do much last year). It's running great, steering is the same as I put the old steering box back in.

The only mechanical thing I did was cut some pipe-thread fittings off my custom angled tube breather and replace them with welded-on AN-8 bungs. I made two new AN hoses for the valve covers.

Of course, welding on the breather necessitated stripping and repainting it. All done a few days ago and mounted yesterday. No more leaks from my crap hoses. YAY!

I have one tiny oil drip, I'll get to it when I swap the trans someday(and that drips too LOL!)

See you in a week!

I let Alan know yesterday that we won't be making it to Carlisle this year.  A few reasons, but perhaps the main one is the injury I suffered last year to my tailbone.  It hasn't healed as yet, and driving gets painful after a while.

I've tried a few 'sample' drives around here, hoping I could make a longer drive, but after a time it's a real discomfort to sit in the seat.  I've had physiotherapy, massage therapy, and rest, but so far, it's still a real pain in the butt, literally.

I'll raise a pint or two while all you guys are down there having the usual great time.  I am really going to miss not being there, and seeing you all.

Washed, vacuumed, and cleaned the truck today. Those dog nose-prints on the inside windows are slimy! Ewwww!

Then I washed the Spyder, got all the winter storage and dead gnat carcasses off. Fluids and tire pressure checked. Car is in the trailer. The enclosed trailer is so convenient.

I'm exhausted. See you Thursday.

Lane should be starting some major maintenance any minute, now......

Or hopefully......   He's already on the road to visiting relatives.

Or he's sitting in his driveway and practicing his "Royal Wave" like Prince William for all those waving peons in lesser cars along the way.  👋

No repairs needed.  Getting ready to grab some dinner in Lexington, VA.  Car is running great (knock wood).  Stayed at Tom Raymond’s place last night.  He invited some of his friends from the Wilderness Trail PCA chapter and the Coupe was a hit.  Go to their Facebook page for some pics.
