Weather is looking...typical.

Not sure what that means.

You've had biblical-spec thunderstorms, cold/drizzling nastiness, 95* heat, hail, no fire and brimstone (that I'm aware of)... but Carlisle is the rustbelt in the spring. "Typical" could mean anything.

For reference, out here in Forgotonia it rained steadily all week last week. I'm not sure the temperature ever got above 45*. The first time we mowed, there was snow in the forecast. Today it was 92*. Tomorrow is supposed to hit 95*.

Atypical is typical.

I think Lane made sure that his New Blue Coupe (anything like my little deuce coupe??) did not have any little brass thingies attached, so he would not be able to sling them into hyper-space.  So he should be good.

Me on the other hand. . . . Went for an oil and filter change today after quick check that the beast would start and run, which it did very well.  So I cranked it up after the new oil was in and ran it a minute or so to check level.  Looking good . . . . uh, WTF?  Big puddle of brand new green oil on the garage floor under right side valve cover.  You know, the one that can't be seen or touched in any way shape or form on account of the sidewinder muffler on that side.  So, I have some back-crawling to do.  BUT . . . better here and now than somewhere on rte 15 on Thursday. . . Was planning to arrive Thursday.  I have tomorrow to sort this one out. lemme see, do I have a spare VC gasket?? I think so . . .

Can anybody explain to me how a valve cover gasket that has worked perfectly for a many hundreds of miles, works perfectly for several minutes until a nice warm up after a very long winter snooze, then leaks like a bee-atch just because i drained the oil and put fresh in?  Just how does that work?

And here we are, yet again, prognosticating about weather.

Are you coming? Yes or no. That's all that matters. Make the call(and I think that we all have already made that call) and show up, or not.

Whatever conditions we have are whatever they are. The only year I didn't bring my car was 2018 due to the weekend-long deluge, predicted and received. And 2016, when I didn't have one, but brought the motorcycle instead.

Bring a shell, an umbrella, maybe a poncho or raincoat. Bring layers. You might need them, you might not.

We're going on Friday's day-long cruise. The car(and us) may get wet. Whatever, it will dry.

Tow vehicle was next in line at the shop an hour ago. Needs new brake cable and possible parking brake pads replaced. Hoping all comes together and not getting upset either way. If it is meant to be I will be there. I look forward to seeing everyone and getting to know those I have not met. I will keep the group posted. The Magnum is ready and cleaned A/C was working and the oil cooler replaced, and new lines installed. Vroom Vroom!!

Just for the heck of it, I peeked at the facebook page of the Wilderness Trail PCA chapter and found the photo's of @Lane Anderson's car the other night.

This photo stood out as representative of Lane's packing style.  It's evident that Lane would benefit from the @MusbJim school of proper 356 luggage packing.....   😉

Lane's luggage

They described Lane as "Lane, owner and a lovely car guy," but we already knew that.

Have a great weekend, Lane!

If the gasket is cork, it may need to soak up and expand after sitting all winter.  Try putting a wooden rowboat into the water after being dry stored all winter, and see if it leaks.

My two cents worth...probably not even worth that much.

Everytiime I see that wheel I think, Australian Boomerang _

  @IaM-Ray

A boomerang is flat.  I thought it looked more like a Romulan Bird of Prey

Kind-of fitting for Lane's little rocket ship....

Regardless, It's a very classy steering wheel.

@Lane Anderson  Great!  You got there early.  Ask the front desk if you can borrow the hose at the side of the building and get busy detailing the coupe.

Cleanliness is next to Porsche-ness.....

While spending a beautiful sunny day waiting on UPS for a carton for the Raffle, I drove the dune buggy for the first time this morning a few quality laps around the block...that justled around the last few air bubbles and the brakes are at 75 % so one more bleeding post Carlisle weekend.  I then hit punch list that I was going to do Thursday in the hotel parking lot because as I ran out of time... i.e. adjusting the headlights, fuel gauge and clutch, replacing the carb, align the dash drop down panel, added grommets in the car cover, mounted fire extinguisher & made a hub cap puller tool...I still have a few more miscellaneous  items to do this evening and hook up the tow bar and new $70.00 ( Seventy USD ) safety chains. It will be a 7:30AM launch from the mountains of West Virginia.  Safe trip everyone !

..........Brown Truck just arrived ! Really cool Raffle donations from Greg at Vintage Motorcars !  THANK YOU GREG !

Is the dune buggy for sale at Carlisle?  Not in need, just curious.

...........I'll bring the Title along but because it's a restored early Meyer Manx, I think it will do much better on BaT post Carlisle weekend.

Just "almost" finished the dune buggy at 9:45 tonight with the tow bar hooked up and ready to roll in the AM .

and . . .

it was not the valve cover gasket, I'm much more creative than that.  It's actually too embarrassing to describe on this austere forum, and I'd need to have at least four beers down before I could possibly not die of embarrassment.  What I can say, is the sequence that led to this was discovered and no harm was done.  Lost less than half a quart. All good to go by around noon today.  And it's not what you think . . .

How's the witty banter going?

Quite well, actually.  A friend of mine from Charleston lives here and Chris and I went to a nearby brewery for a great dinner/drinks.  Afterwards we sat with Glenn and Paul for drinks, and found that a stripper convention was in town.  They wanted to practice their moves for an upcoming competition with us as judges.  Then the fellow showed up who was starting a whiskey company.  He handed out samples, which were fantastic!  A group of British nationals came out on the patio with us and recounted their tales about the their time as fighting the IRA.  We countered with our tales of fighting the IRS.

I'm not going to be a Carlisle, Kelly, so drink a beer and then whisper it to me via pm.  I promise not to tell...
