Can't speak for the Canadian Bob, but I didn't go.  One must differentiate the Bobs for a definitive answer.

Great to see many old friends yesterday, and meeting some new friends. Could only spend a few hours due some extenuating issues, drove my 912, found nothing I couldn't live without however.

Chuck - Always room for a 4 egg marching band samich!  Next year we'll have a "huge" FL showing!  Will 1200 miles get long distance next year? (we'll have to discourage West Coasters driving).  We might cheat a bit and drive to Stanford FL and jump the AMTRAK Autotrain up to Lorton, VA and drive rest of way. Will that count???

Look for BoBG, MarkT, JimA, TomL and Crawdad at least.

Ahhh, that exotic boat tailed Auburn Speedster has got to be the very pinnacle of 'erotic replica dreamland'

At a very young age (less than three years old!) I was crossing State Street, Salt Lake City, waddling hand in hand with my mother,  and there in front of us parked at the curb was an Auburn Speedster. I'll always remember being dazzled for it literally took my breath away...and I realized at that moment (unfortunately for my pocketbook!) that automobiles could be, and should be, much, much, more than transportation!

Forty years ago, in between a couple of Stuttgart 356's, there was a Boat Tailed replica Speedster for sale a few miles form me. The 'possibilities' kept me awake nights...but alas, my pocketbook wouldn't cover the asking price.  

The guy who made that Auburn is pretty cool. The air cleaner is all him--milled it himself, I think. Usually I yawn at small block Chevies but he left no detail un-detailed.

I made it home today by 11 or so. Not much rain. One stop on the highway to help out a pulled-over BMW, but he didn't need any help.

All's well here. It was great to see you all.

Lane - Thanks for sharing those very cool pics! I absolutely miss joining my knucklehead East Coast SOC friends at Carlisle. My previous travel limitations no longer are an issue, so I'm planning on attending next year, rain or shine!

Thanks for the pics Lane.  Drove back to VA through that downpour.  I usually get a little water in the cockpit with my soft top on.  This is the first time I've driven through the pouring rain for an extended period of time with the hard top on.  After 4 hours of rain not a drop in the car.  Starting to think that if I ever do another car, the hard top might be a must.  With my hard tonneau I might even go with soft top delete.  At least Thursday and Friday were beautiful.

Phil- Where do you store the hard top when it's nice out?

I store it over the car in the garage , above the rafters ( my detached garage does not have drywall on the ceiling).... using a hard top hoist to lift off the car/ lower on to the car ....  I purchased the manual hoist from these guys...

...about 100$ on sale 2 yrs back, and then purchased a  brake winch at Home Depot to simplify the one person top install/ removal process....

Bruce and others:  Just wondering what it was like this year with the 'performance' people there?  Were any of the concerns people had going into the weekend justified - e.g. noise, behaviors, etc.? 

Nope, my experience was that the concerns were not justified.  Everybody got along just fine.  It would have been a great show if not for the rain.

Thanks, Lane.  I know a few on here were worried about what it might be like with potential burnouts, drifting contests, noisy exhausts, etc. so it's good to know things were fine.

I'll look forward to 2017.

That's pretty cool!  Reminds me of the old movie "52 pickup" with Roy Scheiderer who had a hoist to lift the hard top from his Jaguar XKE.

I though of doing something similar with a car cover... Something you can raise and lower without having to mess with it much.

I talked to lots of guys browsing around the showfield at Carlisle.  Almost without exception, no one even knew that replicas were part of the show, since the show was listed as "Import & Performance Nationals", or something like that.  Due to that lack of awareness, it made for some funny comments from guys, when they would ask me about those poser "plastic car" people, and I would tell them that every car they saw was a replica.  They would then peer at me to see if I was kidding or not.

The young tuner guys were great!  They don't look like most of us do, with full sleeve tats and ear plugs, but they are car guys, who would peer through the side windows of my car at the engine, and say: "WRX" to each other.  They were respectful of our cars, enthusiastic about the hobby, and didn't bother anyone that I saw.  What more could we ask? 

I understand the financial realities of a venue like Carlisle, and appreciate that they found a place for replicas.  However, it doesn't seem too much to ask to at least include replicas or kit cars in the advertising.  Of course, maybe it was listed, and I just didn't see it.

What was the give-away car this year?  What no pictures SOCers eating the infamous egg sammish ?

I also use a hoist.  Mine is a 4 point hoist with a 4 x 4 foot platform.  It works great and live about 7 feet above the floor.  I never know it is there.  I've got a bit more to store than the hard top.  With my hard tonneau on now I've got the hard top and the soft top up there.  My car came with a custom vinyl bag for the soft top.  Henry thinks of  everything.

I am so happy that the whole "Tuner Thing" was a non-incident.  I kind-of suspected it would be that way, but'cha nevah know.  I've been to a couple of "Tuner Showdowns" with my son and usually found that the people there were mostly interested in how everyone else's car stacked up against theirs.

Phil, those are pretty slick storage lifts.  My wife gave me one a few years back and I put a lot of stuff up there that I don't need all that often.  Mine sits at about 9-10 feet but I got tired of the lots of cranking to get it up or down so I now attach the crank rod  to my variable speed 1/2" drill to do the cranking.  Gives a lot less shaking than I expected, but the whole assembly lends itself to some sort of motorized winch thingie.  Never thought of storing a hard top up there, but it is certainly perfect for it.  Here's a shot of mine:

And here I thought I was slick with my DIY kayak storage system. Camlock  tiedowns with L brackets welded to the thumb release for remote operation. $30 in the rig. No where near as cool as these tho.

Greg - Carlisle no longer gives away cars at any of their shows, ended several years ago.  I questioned when they stopped and was told Pennsylvania changed the related laws and they had to stop the giveaways.  Don't know the particulars.   

Jim Kelly - Replica attendance - manufacturer and participant - was low this year.  Not sure how much was rain-related or otherwise.  Noticeable lack of Cobras, etc.  How are your travels going? Are you still on the road or back in CA?
