Anyone else notice that May's event is no longer Import and Kitcars? It's now Import and Performance. Event is open to soaped up Hondas, Toyotas, etc. Last time they tried this over 200 arrests were made for street racing and disorderly conduct. No mention of drug arrests, gang bangers or assaults but it's not an event I'd like to bring my wife to let alone listen to rice burners with farts cans. I had email contact with the original organizer of the Import and Kitcar event and he said the event was taken away from him despite past success. He has his fingers crossed for the event but expressed his feelings about no longer in charge of it.

Yup...pretty much got this group's attention as soon as Carlisle announced their 2016 schedule.
Here's a thread with a pretty extensive discussion of the pros and cons of the tuner crowd rejoining the Import/Kit Car show:

Bottom line... We're there to catch up with the fellow SOCers. Go with the flow in 2016 and let's see what happens.
If it doesn't work out this year, we can plan our own session, as many of us have discussed.
But, let's hope the organizers will have it under control...
I am hoping to be there this year with my roadster. It would be nice to meet you guys. This would be my maiden voyage to Carlisle so I am hoping that it all works out. Ray
Not all, but most of the problems with earlier iterations of the tuner crowd occurred after normal show hours or off the grounds. Local law enforcement were kept pretty busy!
On the show field, there was no more (or less) interaction between the kit crowd and the tuner crowd than there is between the SOC and the Citroen clubs.
During the Chrysler weekend, I ignore the burnout contest. I just don't understand the intentional destruction that is involved. During the Import/Kit/Tuner weekend, I can just as easily ignore the stereo volume contest.
We'll be fine!
"During the Chrysler weekend, I ignore the burnout contest"
I never indulged in that sport either Ray
Paul and I are about the most seasoned local to Carlisle attendees. As Paul mentioned, the the Tuner crowd issues are from many years back, mostly after hours and off grounds. I did speak with Carlisle Productions prior to the formal announcement this fall of combining shows and was assured that many stop gap models are in place to assure a quality event i.e the burn out and stereo contests and more are scheduled for early evening. Our group and most others depart the show grounds prior to that. The Import- Kit show weekend is the smallest show CP puts on. From a business model I'll give them kudos for attempting to pull this off. Raising flags about the unknown makes little sense. Our Carlisle event works and is enjoyable for all !

What Alan said X2.
Most of us are usually back in the barn by the time it gets dark anyway.
I agree with Alan, and we'll go with he flow for this year and see what happens.
That said, one of my good clients/friends is on the board of the new North Carolina Center for Automotive Research (NCCAR) and they were VERY interested in hosting events like ours...
Do they have a test track that we could have access to, hmmmmm? That could be a LOT of fun.
I have not gotten into too many details with NCCAR, but can ask.
I know in order rent the Tire Rack test track, all you have to do (beside know someone) is hold a $5M insurance policy for the weekend and have EMS on site.
I love test tracks...I'd really like to see what my car can do.

Just for the record, here's one of those "Rice-burning Tuner Guys" (680 HP Eclipse turning 10.9 secs/141.2 mph at Epping Dragway) working with Wild Bill Drayer, installing the engine in Lane's Beck. They ain't all nut-cases, ya know? Another one I know is the morning radio personality on WSRS in Massachusetts. And, besides - all those nut cases go to their own places at night, when we're hanging at the hotel OR going to our banquet hall in Mechanicsburg or somewhere. They don't want to be anywhere near us old farts. We'll be fine......

hmmmmm, no greasy hands, face, hair, no oil on ground,,Posers Id say
That was before they put any oil in it. By the end of the build everybody was appropriately dirty.
Wait...680 horse in an Eclipse only gets high 10s?
What are there, eight passengers stuffed in it?

I recently received the following letter from Ed Buczeskie. Ed has been the manager of the Import and Replica National for the past several years and has always had our best interest in mind and has worked well with us. I believe this will be a bigger and more successful event for all of us to enjoy:
EVENT UPDATE!!
By now I'm sure you've heard about the combining of the Import & Kit Nationals (IKN) with the Performance& Style event to create a new show called the Import & Performance Nationals. .Since I will be co-managing the new event it is my personal goal to make sure the new show retains as much as the feel of the original IKN event as possible. All of the IKN features and activities will remain intact such as the Passport Program, autocross, seminars,, kit manufacturers, clubs, Toys for Tots drive, parking by country of origin, Race Paddock, Invitational Displays, etc.
Showfield participation is trending up and the current year-to-date numbers are up over 49%. Our estimate for the new show is over 2,500 cars and we'll see more attendees through the gate. Those larger numbers will give us the ability to attract more Midway vendors and possibly more sponsors for the show. More people at the show will also be good for the current swap meet vendors and could result in more vendors in the future.
The new show will have some new activities such as drifting, Low Car limbo, Rolling Exhaust Contest, Beauty Contest and Burnout Contest. The drifting will be mixed with the autocross while the Limbo and Exhaust contests will take place later in the afternoon on Saturday. Low Car Limbo is simply driving under a limbo bar at low speed. This has been won by lowered Miatas but I'd love to see an Austin-Healey 100M participate this year. The Exhaust contest is not based on volume; rather it is based on the quality of the exhaust note. Each car is driven past a team of judges, at low speed and under load.
The burnout and beauty contests will be held Saturday evening after all of the traditional IKN activities have ended. Those who are interested in these contests are welcome to come to the stage/grandstand area to check them out. It should be noted that our beauty contest at this event follows all of the same rules as all of our other events. NO nudity is tolerated and we don't allow thongs, pasties, etc to be worn. The participants are also NOT allowed to shake or dance. There will be an earlier round of the beauty contest where the girls are to dress as beer maidens (think St. Pauli Girl) but the swimwear round will be later in the evening. This contest is as family-friendly as possible and there will be nothing that you wouldn't see at any public pool or beach.
The new show is going to be a huge event and a lot of fun! All of the IKN clubs that I've spoken to are planning to attend and give the new show a fair chance. There is also some clubs that are very excited about the new format. My hope is that the new show is much like a 3-day long Cars & Coffee event where we have a wide variety of cars.
If you have any question/concerns/comment, please feel free to let me know.
Thank you and I look forward to seeing you May 20-22, 2016!!
Ed.
No thongs or pasties!? What's GERD gonna wear?
Low car limbo? Hmmm.
Bridget's about 40-42 inches with the windshield folded. About hip high to those guys.
No nudity? That's the last straw. I'm not going.
Go for it, Ed!
Go w/ the flow -- I'm flowin', man. All signed up and ready to hang w/ my homies, y'all.
Maybe Rich can design a nice thong for 2016....... or not.
"I'm flowin', man." Um, Kelly, I don't think Depends makes a thong.
