For those of you who are coming from great distances to attend the Carlisle event, what are your plans for arrival? I'm sure many of you have booked rooms at the Ramada for the 21st and 22nd, but are you also planning on staying in Carlisle on the 20th? I am considering driving most of the way on the 20th, staying overnight somewhere and getting an early start on the 21st so that I can roll into the fairgounds early enough so that I don't miss anything. I would probably pull out by mid-day on the 23rd and drive part way back home and spend one more overnight in Virginia.

Just curious as to what other guys/gals are planning.
Thanks
John H.

Mike, Sarah and I had been thinking of driving the car to Christianburg or Roanoke, Va., but that would still leave 250 - 300 miles the second day which would mean we wouldn't arrive until Noonish on the 21st. We will probably try to get further than that. Also, I realized that the drawing for the beetle is at 3 PM on Sunday, so we will probably want to stay for that. I'm not exactly sure what we would do if we won it, but what the hey. We'll probably drive back to Christianburg in the PM which would be just about right on the return timetable.

Mike,

Maybe I missed it but it sounds as if your new car will be ready for Carlisle. Love to hear how it is coming along and any photo's if you have them. You're breaking new ground with your car so hope we get to get some updates. If you get it done early, you could really break it in by driving it out to Knotts.

By the way, Subu's are very popular here in Oregon. Fellow across the street from me has one of the rally versions, WRX?, also he is restoring a 64 356C and a MGA so I get to do a lot of interesting gagage talk with him. He takes the Subu up to the mountain ski resorts and swears by it, not at it.

John,

Sorry about that, senior moment here! Anyway, we got a pic of the car. Is that the Guards Red, Signal Red color? Good choice! Mine is also that color. What color interior?

Be looking for a full road test report in weeks to come. I'd think one of the kit car magazines would be smart to do a story on it!

Bruce, you can call me Arnold to get even
Bruce, it's supposed to be torch red, a Corvette color, but it sure looks like guards red in the photo. I've not been over since the body came back from the painter but plan to go next Tuesday. The interior is to be black leather with dark charcoal square weave. I hope I don't fry by butt when the heat of summer comes;) Actually, Kit Car Builder did a story on Steve and the Speedster prototype in a past issue. I think that there may be an follow up article on the Cabriolet model forthcoming.

I plan to leave about 1/2 hour to get there. I usually come in the back way (least traffic) on Rt.34 which puts me at the K St. Gate #3. They have an area there to check in and I believe to spray off your car. Depending when I do leave, I may scope out the accomodations and then jet out to the Ramada to hook up with Bruce. As it gets closer what about a
cell phone list?

Pat and I will be leaving our home in Williamsburg Va. on Thursday for a leisurely drive on the backroads to Carlisle, perhaps taking in a battlefield tour along the way.
Bruce, we will wait for you Friday A.M. and Caravan to the fairgrounds.
Our room is reserved thru Sunday night with us leaving Monday A.M. but we may change our minds and get underway late Sunday afternoon.
Looking forward to seeing all of you there.
You are correct,Bill. There is a check-in building just outside Gate #3. There will be alot of activity there. Sometimes a line but a bit faster if you're already registered. It's kind of exciting as you pull into the lot with all kinds of imports and replicas parked while their owners are registering (Mike - Fern will be in Heaven!). When you check in a few very pleasant ladies will give you a goody bag (and a dash plague if you registered early enough) and a participant sticker for your windshield. Back into the car, make a left out of the lot and through gate #3. About 100 yards on your left is a well-equipped wash-down area (more neat cars) with several hoses and on your right is gate #3. Make a choice, aahhhhhh left for a wash ooooorrrr right onto the field. Watch for the Speedsters tent....we'll be there!

We have a few days yet but we'll be posting an agenda of activities for the three days and some directions as we get closer.

I imagine we will head out early Friday morning the 21st. Should be about a 6-7 hour drive. We will stay there Friday the 21st, and Saturday night the 22nd, then leave Sunday afternoon the 23rd, and stay somewhere else before heading home on the 24th.

Monday the 24th is a holiday north of the border - Victoria Day. Or as the crass call it, 'two-four' day. Geez, who considers beer more important than recognizing Queen Victoria's birthday (May 24th)?
