I just got home from having dinner with Jack and Alice Crosby. We are planning on pulling out at 9:00am and having lunch with Tom Raymond near Bristol, right off of I-81 at exit 10 in Virginia. Afterwards, we will push on to Christiansburg to meet up with the gang, probably arriving mid to late afternoon. Lane's post covers the rest of the trip up.

FOR THE FOLKS ON I-81 THROUGH VIRGINIA: When y'all get near mile marker 182 in Virginia look for the south-bound rest area and think of me and Cory. That's where we talked for the first time. We had, of course, been flirting on the interstate for 50 miles or so before that ...

Kelly picks up MUSBJIM from the airport tomorrow (Wed) evening. We three will go to dinner. We will meet up Thursday morning (around 9am?) at Henry County Fire Station Number 5 on MD Rt 32. Then we'll cruise up to Hagerstown to meet up with the rest of the Southern Posse for lunch. From there, it's Carlisle or Bust.
Marc & I will be leaving ROME in a few hours to fly back to Newark. Hey, will that count for having come the farthest??? =)
Our flight home to NH is booked solid and since we travel standby, we may be driving a rental up to NH, repack, switch cars, then head down to PA. We're still debating which route, but we'll be there!
See you all soon ~ and safe travels!
HOOPTY UPDATE: What I thought was leaking brake fluid was a mixture of brake fluid and gear oil. Some seal or o-ring or gasket or combination of those things has made it so that both are leaking, or something. Glad I can be vague! The shop has sourced all the parts and will hopefully have her back together very soon. I don't think I'll be able to pick the Hoopty up this evening, but tomorrow morning probably. It may make me miss the caravan to Carlisle though. We shall see.
The MD connection is well coordinated via cell phone, if not well organized and all squared away quite yet. Will expect to hear from BERT around 4:00 today on the Hoopty R&R progress. Sounds like she will be coming up later on Thurs afer she can pick up the car. Here's hoping the fitments all work like they should and all gets done up in good order. Sounds like new cylinders for the back drums and new seals. More or less routine, I'd like to think. Why new seals were not installed when the drums were added last year is a point to be taken up w/ First Mate Drake, upon his return.

When MUSB arrives this PM we three will reconnoiter about pushing ahead to redezvous w/ the Southern Contingent on Thurs in Haggerstown, or dragging feet waiting for the Hoopty so BERT has company on the trek north. Not sure how all that will settle. I have cell phone numbers for others in the caravan, and can stay updated near real-time.

AND, pls tell me exactly where the lunch spot is in Haggerstown. What exit number, Rte number or what, and current ETA for the caravan. I do not remember, and having only done it once, affraid I might miss it. Shoney's?
Well, Kelly bailed on dinner tonight because he accidentally booked himself to be at a softball game. But I do know that MUSBJIM arrived. I was on the phone with Kelly when Jim was in the airport waiting for his bag.

And I'll be missing tomorrow's caravan to Carlisle (which was to start with a rendezvous with Kelly and MUSBJIM -- Dos Tortillas should hook up with Kelly and MUSBJIM in my stead ... MD Rt 32 West to Clarksville Road ... Henry County Fire Station #5 is right there).

The parts were late getting to the shop, so the work will be done tomorrow. Hopefully I'm in Annapolis to get the car by noon. If the weather turns too sour, or if the car isn't going to be ready, then I'll make the trek in the VW Golf.
The Southeast Caravan began arriving in Christiansburg about 2:30 pm with all present and in good shape by around 4:30pm. We are all staying in a Fairfield Inn right off I-81 except for Gordon, Kathy and the pups. Fairfield Inn rule: NO DOGS ALLOWED. We will be shoving off at 9:30 this morning and expecting to reach Hagerstown, MD about 1:30pm. We will have one gas stop between here and there in Staunton (pronounced Stanton), VA. Looking forward to hooking up with the rest of the guys/gals. WOOOOO HOOOOO!

Marc & I made it back from work and will be headed out early in the AM. We've made the tuff-love decision to leave Speedy parked here in NH and just come down for the show in a 'regular' car. I'm beyond disapointed, but looking at the weather forcast ~ and the fact that I've never actually driven an SUV towing a trailer (so Marc would do ALL the driving), it seems the smartest move on our part.
Still, we are really looking forward to meeting everyone!... See you Friday afternoon!... Susie
