E.C. Bruce: (that sounds pretty Euro-official, doesn't it??)

Sign me and Chris up for the EMMR cruise. Just bit the bullet and reserved a rrrooooomm for us starting Thursday night. Might be making a speed run back to New England in the middle of everything, but that's what makes life exciting!!

Besides, we've got this engine kicking around underfoot that we're trying to pawn off on (Oops! I mean, donate to) Jerome.

Hey......on a totally unrelated topic, has anyone from any of the Kit Car magazines (or, better yet, Excellence or Car and Driver or Road and Track) been informed of the upcoming exploits of our Suby-tub commander, John (as in Hoss) Hallstrand??????

This is going to be a remarkable adventure, to be sure, to make the runs to BOTH West and East coast events within a months time, and one worthy of getting some national/international press coverage - maybe we can get someone from the Speed Channel to interview him at both events! I think Hoss is a hellofa lot more interesting than Barry McGuire (and far less struck on himself, too), although he may be stiff (and deaf) and sun burned by the time he gets to Carlisle!!

We, as a semi-organized group, should be helping to do some contingency planning for John along the way, too. We've heard what his route is, so maybe we can begin to refine it a little, leave some leeway in there for him but get folks along the way organized for help if he needs it or just for someone to meet him and drive along with him for a ways and buy him a coffee or Mountain Dew or a can of Red Bull.

We know that Chris has volunteered to be "Mission Control" for John as he did for Jim Ward last year, and provide semi-real-time progress reports, and that's terrific, but to have folks lined up along the way would be even better. This is four days on the road one-way, people!!!! Let's get some volunteer support going, here!!!

I'll get together with John tomorrow (it's getting past my bedtime here now) and refine the basic route down to half-day chunks and report back tomorrow so we can let people know where he'll be, and then organize a "Where's Hoss?" support structure to keep track of him as he hurtles over the road on his quest for the "Dead Ass Award" at both meets.

E.C. Bruce: What can we do for press coverage??

Gordon (and Chris)
Mission Control for "Where's Hoss?" (and "Where's Jim-Bob, too!)
All,

I am a Speedster wannabe who is deep in the throws of research prior to diving in. Bruce has graciously allowed me to grab one of the rooms in your hotel block and I am looking forward to meeting y'all and talking to you about your cars. I would also enjoy going to the EMMR in the Speedster convoy if anyone has a spare right seat. I've never ridden on one, and I figure that just might be a good thing to do before I buy one.

If I can get one made before I get up to Carlisle I'll be wearing a T-shirt designed by Mike Cochrane saying "I'm Lane, where's my beer". Cool design - too bad I can't figure out how to attach it here.

Cheers,
Lane Anderson
Lane,

If everyone already has right-seaters don't hesitate to join us in your personal or rental car. We may have an assortment of vehicles on the cruise anyway since we've invited the other import and replica clubs to join us and have at least one of the Fireo's coming along. (Fiero's always have a HUGE turnout for this weekend, usually winning the "largest club registration" award).
We have about 15 cars registered for the cruise. I spoke with the EMMR yesterday and they are ready for us. Carlisle asked us to meet just inside the registration gate to avoid crowding the registration lot. So either get there a little early and register or wait outside the gate and meet us as we leave the fairgrounds. We'll have a sign by the lead car showing where to meet. We have to leave at 9:00 sharp to avoid cutting the tour short.

And the Carlisle officials have no problem with us going into the event to register and then leaving for the morning? At Knotts, I don't think that would be allowed (ie. once you're in you're in for the duration and no startups, high revs, burnouts, or rides period).
That's the way it went down Saturday, but Sunday seemed to be a little more relaxed, probably due to the rain and low turnout.
Sounds like Carlisle is entirely more relaxed than Knott's seems to have been.

Register when you get there (whenever that is) and you can pretty much come and go as you please. Only thing they don't want is a bunch of cars cruising through the center of the grounds - too many people wandering about for that.

In fact, remember that we did that "cruise to the top of the hill and back" for the movie that Mike Cochrane did, and all we got were lots of smiles.
John,

Carlisle is a "open" facility with hundreds going and coming throughout each day.
Upon picking up your registration paperwork at Gate 3, you will be given a show field sticker which gets affixed to the top left of the windshield you may come and go as you please . As you re-enter at gate 3, the "gate people" will wave you through into the show field area.
John,

Actually it might be best to get to Carlisle before 9:00 and register before the cruise on Friday because registration may be busier at noon when we get back to the fairgrounds - and we're gonna be hungry!

Gordon and Alan are correct, register, get your goody bag, paste the Carlisle sticker on your windshield and come and go as much as you want all weekend long. But I think you're going to want to hang around once you get there.
