They have the group start date as the 18th (Friday) rather than the 17th (Thursday), and continuing through the evening of the 20th (Sunday) when most folks will have left. I was asked to call back when their boss is "out of her meeting" since the folks at the desk couldn't figure it out.

Am I correct in assuming that folks will be arriving on Thursday and leaving on Sunday?

Hotel Carlisle was booked full some months ago by two other large non automotive groups from the Carlisle Show weekend. I found this out a few weeks ago and have been working on alternative venues. After many inquiries (some as high as $189.00)the best value was at the Ramada Limited Carlisle where we stayed at two years ago.

I've booked a block of 30 rooms at the Ramada Limited Carlisle,
15 non smoking rooms are in the main building with the remaining 15 smoking rooms booked in the satellite building.
Should the majority of the reservations be non smoking, this can be adjusted but don't wait until the last minute to reserve.

You may cancel up until 6pm of the scheduled day arrival date.

If you are arriving on Thursday a $89.95 rate applies as the show weekend rate of $112.46 are always at a premium.

Yeah, the Wythville idea sounds great for Wednesday night. As for participants we have (so far):
- Hoss & The Subytub
- Lane & The Beckster
- Gordon & Pearl (& Chris?)
- Cory & The Hoopty

Some possibles are:
- Kevin Haskins (aka "odwagerty") & his black Speedy
- Peter McEwen from Beaufort & his blue Speedy
- Mike (whose last name I always forget) from NC if he still has his
- Bob Bigham & his lovely IM
- Anybody else?
If I come up from the South (a pretty good bet at this juncture), then Chris will probably be coming from the North (he does live and work in New England, after all).

We may end up swaping the trailer at Carlisle and he'll bring it North the rest of the way, but that's WAY too far in the future to plan with any certainty right now. Either way, it has to end up in New England for the Summer.....

Or.....I may just buy a really good pair of noise-cancelling ear buds and IPOD Pearl all the way to Carlisle. Now THAT would be cool!

I'll be seeing Peter and Jody later this week and will ask them about whether they might like to make the trip, along with a couple of the Factory-Five Cobra guys here in Beaufort (and the other Cobra guy who drives a CMC!!) THAT would be a hoot!

To be honest the only thing that I really am worried about getting done is the windsheild. The car came with a cracked windsheild and I have a feeling that it was installed incorrectly. I will be looking for anyone who has experince to help me install the new one when it arrives, I even don't mind paying there gas, and as always at my house there is plenty of cold beer in the frig and on tap!

Thanks
Hey Guys coming up from the south-
I am a member here and a speedie wana be for my next project.
About 6 years ago I bought a old broken down, sitting behind a stripmall shop MG TD ( VW based ) replica and w/ my oldest son made it our project. I have had a great time w/ my boys in the garage rebuilding the whole thing ourselves from ground up ( rebuilt or replaced everything ourselves )and am in the final stages now. I have a couple of electrical issues to iron out and it will be on the road. It is a little hot rodded w/ wire wheels, but I like the look.
Long story short- I have been to the last couple of Carlisle weekends and want to drive the car this year as it will be complete.
Do you guys have an issue w/ me and hopefully one of my sons hooking up w/ you guys on your way up and stay w/ the Speedie group?
I know its not a Speedie, but it is VW based and I would love to scope out your cars for our next project. I hope to find a lost interest project in the next year after I enjoy the car I have.
We live about 40-50 miles south of DC on I 95, but could meet up a little west of here and go north as I have no desire to head up on 95, but want to go back roads.
Let me know, Dale
Dale:

We have a number of folks driving up from the South, and we would be thrilled to have you stay at the Ramada Limited, Carlisle with us (see reservation info from Alan Merklin elsewhere under "Events").

Bob Bigham (Biggs) should be coming along from Atlanta, I live in Beaufort, SC, Lane is in Charleston, SC (our "Po" cousin to the North), Hoss Hallstrand is leading the "Hoss Drive" from near Knoxville and Cory lives just outside of Baltimore, so there should be plenty of company. We're all meeting up in Southern Virginia or thereabouts, and will make the trip to Carlisle from there, a combination of highways and back roads. We'll post the final route soon, and you can decide if it looks good or not, but I doubt that we'll be breaking Warp Speed getting there ;>) I'm also trying to get a couple of Cobra folks from Beaufort to come along, but no solid committs yet...

I usually trailer my car, not because it wouldn't make it, but more to have an available trailer just in case anyone has trouble along the way. I also usually bring along about a shop's worth of tools and spares (if you saw Chris and me at the Speedster build last year, you know what I'm talking about.) If we can't get you going, we just swap you onto the trailer and press on regardless. BTW: We've never had to do that in four past years!

If you have questions or need info or any kind, please email me. I'm also the lead organizer of "Speedsters Meet Spyders at Carlisle" and the keeper of the headcount for the evening dinners....

See you in the Southern Caravan!
