It looks like I'll be able to make Carlisle on Saturday afternoon & Sunday morning; but my Speedster wil remain home, still not finished. Having only met only one or two of the SOC group (those in the NJREPLICA club), and being an avid follower of this site, I am really looking forward to meeting many of you.

This may sound childish, but what would you think of SOC folks wearing nametags during the show? At previous shows, because most car owners wander around the show and do not stay by their cars, I've often found it difficult to meet the owner of a specific car. Nametags would make it possible to "recognize" a name from this site.

We've had name tags at Carlisle since I started going in 2004. With an Internet-based group who know each other mostly via keyboard, it's almost a requirement to have a name tag (Oh, so THAT's what you look like!!)

If you've signed up ahead of time, it'll probably be waiting for you.

If you haven't, then you can fill out one when you get to the "Speedsters Meet Spyders" tent (just ask someone at the welcoming table).

Chairman of "Speedsters Meet Spyders at Carlisle, 2007"
Here's a picture of Hoss and his car, "Red Man" at Watkins Glen just after his laps on the track (he's about 2/3'ds of the way back in the pack)

And here he is wandering around at the indoor paddock, checking out the cars:

and here's a GREAT shot of Hoss' steering wheel at the meet:

Then there's a another shot of Vic Edelbrock, in the Corvette he raced back in the '60's, for all Y'all "West Coasters":

That Hoss.....he really gets around!!
Speaking of that, a lot of people seem to be embarassed that their cars aren't "SHOW QUALITY" and they don't want to bring them to Carlisle because they think everyone will laugh or something.

That's just silly.....

Let me remind Y'all, that last year, this guy shows up with his unfinished car on a trailer and a few folks (those who weren't working on the Speedster build at the time) helped him unload, by hand, his "workshop wonder". They push it over into line with the other cars and position him next to Danny P's 550 Spyder (which got soaked during the ride to Carlisle in the rain, BTW Danny eventually dried out).

THAT "Workshop Wonder" was Cory Drake's car; Un-painted, engine-less, interior-less, certainly a "work in progress" and probably had the most people standing around looking at it while it was there!

So what, if YOUR car is a "work in progress"? This is NOT a judged show!! What you'll get, for free, will be a wealth of information on how to do those things to finish your car that may have you stumped (or "Bruced", if you get my pun!)

Bring your car, in ANY shape, to Carlisle! We all want to see your car, and we all want to meet YOU!
I'm certainly not ashamed of the current condition of my build, and I'm not making excuses. The current intent is that my brother will leave northern Connecticut Saturday about 6am, arrive at my house about 8:30. Without pulling a trailer, we should be at Carlisle before noon. Sunday morning we expect to visit for an additional couple of hours, then drive to Brick, NJ to visit mom in a nursing home. Leaving there by 6pm, arriving home after 7pm. Brother should make it home about 9:30.

Not worth trailering that much for the 6 or 7 hours we will actually be at the show.

I am definately looking forward to meeting as many of you SOC folks as I can and checking out your cars.

See you Saturday afternoon.
Brian, you're welcome to spool the Hoopty up while you're there. Everyone ought to leave the show with the "SEG."
Gordon, what a cool perspective. My goal is for everyone to have a crack at the little minx this year; she won't probably be spending much time parked in the grass.
Bring me a blindfold, though. I don't wanna watch!
TC,

Thanks for the appreciative comments regarding my Sebring. I finally broke down this winter and bought an electronic camera. Haven't had the Sebring out yet since then. In the next week or two I'll get it outdoors and post a few good pictures.

It weights 1785 lbs and runs a modified 1966 Ford 289, polished Edelbrock manifold with four barrel carb, hardened T5 5-speed from Ford racing, billet modified 3:40 Trac Loc rear, BBK ceramic coated headers, stainless dual exhaust, Griffin radiator, etc, etc.
See yuo in Carlisle.
TC, Tom.... I finally got around to taking a few outdoor electronic photos of my Sebring. See "PHOTOS" for a couple in addition to these two. When I took these, I hadn't gotten around to cleaning the exterior or vacuuming the interior; it still had a lot of dust from the Speedster body work that I did over the winter.

I'll look for you all at Carlisle Saturday afternoon.
