Even though my car won't be finished I am thinking about coming to Carlisle.

Does anyone have a room to share? I probably would arrive on Thursday and leave on Sunday.

I may ride with a local club member from Michigan, in which case I would need rides to the dinners and hotel.

Maybe the triple rack lady? Daniel, I mounted your spare last night. The old VW rim is rough and pitted after the sand blasting, but covered with a coat of silver paint. If you're going to show the car with the trunk bay open, you may want to shove this under the car until the show is over. With the compact spare mounted on the old 4.5 x 15 in wheel the total outside diameter is about 22 inches. The tire is of such narrow width that when lying on the floor of the shop, the rim touches the floor. You may want to have some sort of cover to protect the trunk area from being scratched by the wheel. See ya one week from today.
Dan, We had some misfortune at the farm next door over the weekend. One of the Holstein cows suffered a fatal hardware disease. Maybe I could arrange a leather spare tire cover--uncured, hair-on, black and white leather spare tire cover. Just a few minutes with a chain saw and a sharp windshield scraper, by the time I get to Carlisle it might even be dry and form-fit to the spare. Don't delay, this offer gets less appealing as each hour of sunshine passes. By the way, that wheel is 4" x 15 not the 4.5 that I mentioned earlier so the whole package is just 4" x 22". It's holding air, too. Maybe four of those would give you the look of the modern cars with the thin tires and close to the ground? You just have to keep the car under 50 MPH and the tires inflated to 60#. And you need to change the tires every 100 miles or so. But it would look so cool to cruise around the block and and back into the garage.
There's no doubt I am anticipating Carlisle!! As I take each small step toward completion of my speedie, I come up with questions about how it's been done by others. I'm really looking forward to taking lots of photos of finished cars to get details of the fine points of assembly. I'll be taking notes and names. Right now though, I'm just sanding and sanding on the clear coat, getting ready for the finish buff. I'm confident that the Carlisle viewing will re-invigorate the urge to get the baby rolling. It's been over a year and I just got the color applied. Once it's shiny, progress will be much more evident.
