Quick question: Is anyone traveling up Interstate 81 from the south to Carlisle that might be interested in meeting up with us. If so, when do you plan to be passing through Winchester, VA. There is a Welcome Center / Rest Stop just North of Winchester.

The southeast caravan travels up on Thursday from Christiansburg, VA, and we pass through Winchester. We'd probably be there around 11-ish.
Lane---didn't we make a stop at that same rest area last year?
Entirely possible, Jack. At this point the various treks have begun to run together.
Send it to me as I seem to have somehow become the leader on this one.

Bill, I don't think I'll ever get tired of seeing that picture!
I do.
Does this beer make my gut look fat?
I've lost most of it with the cycling I've been doing. Not sure Danny and Bill can say the same.
The DC contingent would be looking to meet, per usual, near Haggerstown, for the last leg. Not sure what "contingent" means at this point, might just be me. In any event, pls say, Oh Mighty and Fearless SE Caravan Leader, what the deal might be for that.
Hey, I lost 10 pounds without exercising. Shouldn't be a problem to lose a little more with some sweat equity involved. Beware Mr. Anderson!
Since the Shoney's in Hagerstown closed a couple of years back we've been meeting at a Cracker Barrel in, um.... some place in southern PA. It's only 30 minutes or so from the hotel, in Chambersburg (I think). Check with Cory as he usually meets us there as well, along with Dr. Clock.
Are we going to make a SE Caravan thread, or is this going to suffice?
Ron - Creating it now.
Title = Carlisle SE Caravan Stops
Cool, I'll keep an eye out for it!
I was thinking of going but since my engine went hinky, I don't think I can get it apart, get it checked out, and reassemble it within the next x-number hours. Lesson learned: NEVER assume in terms of torque values...
Meade
:-(
You have a month and a half, Meade. Don't give up just yet!
I'm trying to get in touch with Leon Chupp to see if he wants to make the trip as our guest. We're pulling a trailer that will make a great support vehicle for road mishaps. Leon could be tech support. The guy is a living breathing tech manual for these cars!

Mad Duck, I'd trailer it unless you've fixed and put a hundred care free miles on it.
Rain? You'll need an umbrella under your soft top to stay dray if it rains like it did in 09...I had now wipers and followed Lane in the dark on a wild goose chase trying to find our way...talk about an adventure!

The S/E Caravan is a hoot and really an fun event in itself and I'd encourage any others to anyone else join us along the way.
NEW SUBJECT---still about caravans tho. The greatest road trip Alice and I ever took was to the West coast evevt 4 years ago and we have always to repeat it (if thefolks would have us back!) If there is anyone that would like to caravan either this spring of spring of '17 please email me at hsbroker a aol.com .
Sound of crickets.
A caravan really sounds like a lot of fun but I'm beginning to have worries about this little mill that I've got. I'm still at 80# per cylinder, and speaking with some air cooled specialists, the 1915 tends to run hot. I bought some type 3 cooling tin and am probably going to put them on while I've got the heads off. Also, just driving around last night, the engine REALLY loaded up and I had to drive around in 2nd gear, like some kind of teenager trying to make a lot of noise. That was the only thing that would clear up the plugs. I can see why the previous owner trailered the car to car shows...
Cracker Barrel is in Chambersburg PA exit 14 off Rt 81 N.
80 lbs is in a cylinder about dead.........
Yeah, when I checked compression during the infamous "brass thingie" debacle I had over 100# in each. I don't remember exactly how much over 100#, but they were are close to one another.
Shouldn't be somewhere around 115??

My 1915 doesn't run hot at all. Just get the timing right and you should be fine.
All the cylinders in my 1914 tested out at 135 lbs-it runs good .
joel
Doc---you really lucked out in the engine dept and scored a great one.

On the bright side, Mr. Duck can burn 87 octane and run 180* oil temps with the throttle matted in 110* heat. The down side is that a matted throttle would be good for about 60 mph.
Time for some valve guides.
