I got mine from JPS. I am fairly sure John got mine from Vintage Spyder. The quality of mine is fine for my car. Nice and heavy. Seemed to be well made.

To get an exact duplicate of a Carrera cap get out the checkbook. Earlier people suggested looking at ebay for other racing caps, or perhaps Summit Racing.
Bruce,

Dario sells exact duplicate Carrera or maybe its Spyder flip caps. I don't think it is the screw out, mine isn't. Dario's are beautiful, as are his other parts. Not cheap though.

There is a business that sells reproduction parts for Carrera's and Spyders, their address is spydersports dot com. Or you could contact Parts Obsolete.
Yes, cut a hole in the hood like on some Carrera GT's. I think it looks very retro racer.

Some people use a rubber toilet plunger head to make a collar around the fill tube neck and add a piece of tubing to drain away any rain water that may try to enter the hood, although Alan suggested a gear shift boot from something, can't rememeber, to do the same thing.

I agree with Paulie, the JPS flip cap looks fine to me.
I didn't take any pics when I was in the shop, but it is from JPS and he may have a shot he can send you Bruce. I'm not familiar with the Spyder-related offering. I was looking at a shift boot, funny you'd say that Carey, but I was going to defer to the toilet plunger, well just because I think it makes a great mental image, chasing down car parts in a real classic sense, pissing off the purists, staying close to what's near and dear to my heart (a smooth flowing toilet and a smooth running replicar!)

The idea of filling through the hood is not without anxiety in that the opportunity to slop and spill will now be more visible...before I shut the bonnet and it evaportated on its own, not on my red stripe.

The car is likely to go in for surgery next week. I'll be evaluating plungers...

Alan,

Good suggestion on the truck boot, I'll check into it. Paul, if you find a good one let us know.

I've looked at a couple of photos of the original Carrera gas cap on the 'net and it doesn't look that tough to replicate - basically looks like a domed cap with a 1/8" metal or aluminum strip welded upright across the top with four holes drilled in the metal strip. I haven't seen a good close-up photo lately, anyone have one?

Dario,

I like the look of the flip cap. A few qustions: Where did you get the cp and installation kit and what was the cost? What kind of tank is that, original? What part of the country are you in? Looks like an original 356, right?
