Paul, go to the spyderclub.com site and do a search of carrera style mufflers. There is a guy that custom makes them.

A Spyder guy contacted him within the last several months (?) to see if he would make him one, the guy said that he would need an order of three or its not worth his time. NOT CHEAP, seems like around a grand, but the photos look sweet, looks like the rear deal. Don't know anything about flow.
Paul, I had this system made for my VS by a company caled OLD SPEED, they are about 15 minutes from kirk's place. The cost was about $800 but it was worth every penny. It is extremely loud though. The only down side that I can think of is that they need your car as it is a custom job and takes a couple of weeks. Email Russell at oldspeed.com

You can get this same system through Custom Speed Parts too, including the oversized heater boxes. They are a Germany based outlet, but they also have a USA contact/distributor working out of CA. Also, Black Gold VW parts out of the DFW Metro area (Arlington) has these available too. CSP's german webs site has an english option... check under Bug exhaust systems.... here's their web site:

You can find CSPs ad in Hot VWs and Trends every month, look on the bottom of ad for their USA number.

Jack Wenk owns Black Gold... I'll have to check in the shop for his telco numbah. They are on the web, I've seen them linked out of the North Texas VW Club site.

Hope this helps. I would like to put one on as soon as I heal from the latest surgery they did three weeks ago. Log Cabbin fever, can't wait for Spring and being 100% healed again.

I heard it on Jack Wenk's (owner Black Gold VW Parts)custom 62 Vert, with a 1914cc and dual 40 IDFs. It has a nice throaty sound at all RPMs, and bellows pretty good as you wind it up between shifts.... but it is not as loud as my 1.5" Merged system with large boxes from Kymco or CB Perf (in my case), with a Dynomax (My pick) or Phatboy, or Mondo hanging on the back.

I like it, CPS's system, because of the design, the stocker look, and the stainless steel option. I checked the muffler location on Jack's car and this system allows you access to the valves for adjustment, unlike the VS upgrade system. Also, having twin 2" polished stainless steel pipes peeking out the rear apron is a real bonus to me.

I also love the system built for my fellow Speedster nut in Kansas that cost $800 and needed Old Time to have 2 weeks access to buikd the sytem for the car...... look at his pics... it's a kick ass system. But, getting the car out west and back adds heavily to that cost...
