Watch out for clearance issues with the front wheels at full lock. If you get the rear kit, it'll also add track as well. I got my wheels recentered to get everything to fit nicely. The set-up is "the bomb", but quite a bit more expensive and a bigger hassle than So-Cal's wide 5 kit. It's quite a bit lighter though, and all the weight is unsprung.

It'd be perfect if they could have gotten the track right.
Stan - you got the AC Industries wide 5 kit right? or did you get the CB kit before intermeccanica was an AC Industries dealer and then modify your wheels?

and Chuck - you got the CB wide 5 kit right?

Is anyone running the AC Industries wide 5 setup?

I am in the market for a full wide 5 swap from a ball joint / IRS setup, but i also want drop spindles.

I see that intermeccanica is a AC Industries reseller - which means that they use those parts - which means they fit the classic speedster's body. I've sent them an email asking if they would sell me a full setup.

I'll be running the 5.5 steelies (which is what they run too - so clearance / offset shouldnt be an issue.

Paul: I purchased the CB performance Wide 5 Kit. As I stated earlier, the only issue was the lines being too short. I have not experienced any clearance issues than Stan mentioned. I am running 4.5" rims, not 5.5". I looked into the rear Wide 5 kit, but it will not work on my 66 pan due to the added width. I doubt that I have 1/2" of clearance now w/drums and the 4.5" wheels. The rear discs are really not necessary. My front disc/rear drum setup stops on a dime. Save your money.

i want wide 5 wheels (totally diffent look to the car). i have $ set aside for this conversion. I just need to figure out what configuration is best.

I want drop spindles as well. I'm certain that there must be a full ball joint drum to wide 5 disc with drop spindle kit available.

What are some other option for the rear? I believe adaptors are the only answer? Any other ideas?
why didn't you just get a narrowed beam instead of changing the offset of the wheels? Looks like that is the route i will be going - probably a 3 inch narrowed. It isn't going to be cheap though.

also - chuck - what are you running in the rear if you still have drums? you clearly have a ball joint front end - so you didn't have wide 5's from the factory. ??
Chuck, Stan,
In this thread is mention of Swing axle trans and 5.5" wheel widths not fitting the confines of the rear body width.
What is not noted is in regard to whitch swing axle trans in use.
Are these long axle or short axle swing axle transaxles?
The axle length on swing axle transaxles were made longer for 1967 VW US model Type 1 cars.
Unless there are different body widths for different manufacturers, I find it hard to believe that short axle transaxles are too wide to use 5.5" wheels with wide 5 disc brake set-ups installed.
