what do you guys think of this update kit for the 40 and 44 idf carbs? do the horizontal jets and larger venturis really make a noticable difference in performance? are the claimed 12% gains valid?

I cannot attest to the update kit but CB does sort out diff ways to get legit performance power increases. The 12% increase is probably true for their engine & yours too if it is very close to theirs.

The kits work fairly well; there are no "horizonal jets" but rather a change in the auxilliary venturi. You will need to re-jet, and if you don't have an accurate air/fuel meter that can be an expensive, tiresome, and sometimes inaccurate process.
