Hello to all,

I am a newbie and I apologize if I ask a question that has already been asked but I was checking Chamonix website and I saw that in their product line, they have a super 90...

http://www.chamonixcars.com.br/produto_super90_html_en.asp

Does anybody know if Special Edition plans to distribute this kit in the US? It is currently not listed on SE website as one of the kits they sell.

Thank you.

Kind of a long story, but the car is not really in production anymore. We've built a total of 3 in the last few years. 2 were done a year or so ago as cost studies, in which we realized that the cost to produce the car was WAY above where we were comfortable being, and a 3rd is in production now for someone who HAD to have it, and wouldn't take "no" for an answer... (and also didn't care about price tag)

If the dollar regains some strength we will reconsider production, but it is headed the wrong way at the moment.

I have a mailing list/waiting list that you can be added to by sending me an e-mail.

Well, I am totally confused, as usual. But before we get into that, let me second the emotion: this car looks very very good. Sort of a "D", with a difference, I'd guess. Now the confusion: Was there ever a real Super 90 Speedster? My admitedly incomplete knowledge of P-car lore says there was the Speester, the Convertible D and the Cabriolet in the rag-tops. Is this car shown here a true replica of an old car, or a very interesting, and totally awesome recreation, capturing the best of several issues? I owned a '61 Super 90 Coupe one time, and the front of this car reminds me a lot of that car. To answer the other question, the S90 mill was (duh!) 90 hp. It was a 1600, w/ dual dual throat Solexes (32 PII??), large valves in a larger head, sodium filled on the exhaust side, special alloy barrels/fins, Nichrome lined w/ oil dimples, and basically the racing engine of the day, setting aside the OH cam Carrera. Does the Super 90 label on this rascal indicate a real S90 engine inside? And why would it be so expensive to build, relative to what is already going on??

And is the SUPER 90 gold emblem inside on the dash a true piece? Might like to have one of those, vs. the 1600 SUPER tag now on the back of my Speedster. Would take away from my "traditional" look a little, but would remind me of the good old days in my rockin' S90 Coupe and would be closer to the truth wrt what is really inside my Speedster. Maybe . . .
Look closely. It's a cabriolet replica, not a speedster or a D. It's a "C" body replica, if my eyes don't deceive me.

Speedsters were "A" bodies. They had removable windshield frames, stripped down interiors, and "emergency" tops (with side curtains). The cabriolets all ("A"-"C") had wind-up windows, and windshields that were part of the body, and cushier seats and better tops.

The speedster was meant to be a stripped down boy-racer version of the 356 meant to compete with lower priced British cars in the American market. The "D" was the speedster replacement in '59 only, and the "Roadster" was the "D" replacement in the "B" body.

356's actually varied quite a bit "A" to "C", and their target customers varied quite a bit as well, according to body style.

..... sort of like the replica market today.
Powerplant and chassis are the same as our speedster; tube frame and aircooled.

Stan is correct, it is a replica of the '64 356C Cabriolet. The molds are from the ENVEMO cars. My father was a part of that project in the 80's. The molds were sold off and bounced through a few hands before we reacquired them in the early 90's.

The S-90 badge is available at Stoddard and the like. The one on the dash is out of place IIRC.

I have always wanted to expand our product line with this car, as well as the '64 C coupe, but the conditions just haven't been there... yet. Maybe someday.
Carey, we swapped emails on the Super 90 a few months back... Beautiful car! If a nice original 356C Cab sells for at least $75k, it seems to me there would be a viable market for a replica in the $40k range??? Hope the economics gets favorable soon! There are a lot of us out there that would belly up to have a more reasonable daily driver model like the Cabriolet...

I drive a Speedster, therefore I must be a "boy-racer".

Boy racer.....

hmmmmmmmmm............

Makes me feel a lot younger than my 57 years......especially when I blow the hubcaps off of a V8 around Beaufort.

Boy Racer.......I LIKE that!!

Thanks, Stan!!
