As a relative newbie; can someone explain the difference between the Chamonix & Beck Spyders. I know that Chamonix, is or at least used to be, located in Brazil. Beck used to be located in CA and is now in (I think Indiana) and the company appears to be called Special Editions. I seem to be going around in circles. Does Beck simply buy the Chamonix body or what? Are they completely different cars?

Reason for the inquiry: I am currently looking at 550 Spyder titled as a 1955 Chamonix/Beck. Apparently it was built in 2008 if this matters. In looking at the registry and other forums on this site I see both Chamonix and Beck listed as manufacturers of the 550.

Guess I am just lost. Help!

Beck, at one time used, Chamonix body / frame units as their starting point.... Each manuf. now uses different engine and drive train components... ( There may be some mix and match )

Basicly, Chamonix and Beck are different entities, and the term Chamonix/Beck is used to distinguish the body mold shape....

Carey Hines of Special Editions is THE Beck supplier ( OEM ) out of Indiana...He and his brother are great people to do business with.....

Call them and have your "wish list" handy....
Actually Leon, Kevin is Carey's father. You are correct though, that they are great to deal with.

I heard a slightly different interpretation. I seem to remember that Kevin told me that he, Chuck Beck, and the Brazilians jointly owned the Chamonix factory in Brazil. Beck has only recently moved production to the states.

Carey posts here occasionally, so maybe he can set us right.
