I was hoping to buy a new Speedster replica, but the wait times are too long. So, I have started looking for a used Speedster. I have a interior/exterior color combination in mind. But not sure if it will be available in the used market. I was wondering ....when I buy something, if it's not the combination I always wanted, should I buy the exterior color I wanted and maybe later change out the interior color???.....OR should I buy the interior color I wanted and maybe later have it painted to the color I wanted??? Your thoughts, your positives, your negatives, costs, etc. etc. either way. Thanks from Texas.

Interior change ($2,200) is a lot cheaper than a repaint ($6 - $7k)... you may end up liking the combo that you buy used.
What color combo are you looking for?
With interior change, it might also drive you to change top and tonneau color so add another grand there. At least with inteior change - you can resell the old interior and make a few $ back. Obvious, the interior color isn't black which still seems popular.
With an interior change, there are more options for a bit of customization details over just a paint color change
I was considering a wide black body with a tan interior.
Not that unusual combination - Troy had a couple like that.
@Palex1915 I'll consider selling mine, pics on my profile. Thanks.
There is more to just the color combination !!! 2 other items that many be difficult.... being in Texas, and being this car is for my wife, she will need air conditioning and side windows.......
Carlo- your car looks BEAUTIFUL !
Side "windows" or side "curtains". Probably 85% of replicas have side curtains.
A/C is NOT that popular with air cooled cars. My guess is 15% of cars would have it. It can be added though.
@Palex1915 mine ahas A/C and blows cold air have the window inserts.
I had a long post typed out regarding how you'll never find what you are specifying... but there it is, one post above mine.
It's a Christmas miracle.
Her first choice was a Cabriolet, which has the windows and radio. But, those are VERY hard to find. So she switched to the Speedster. Windows is what she wants, not curtains. Thank you Stan for your "Christmas Miracle" !! This is EXACTLY what I want to hear. I don't own 1, but want 1. I wanted to hear from actual owners.
If you want roll-up windows in a Speedster you are limited to Intermeccanica. If the price of an IM doesn't scare you then you shouldn't have trouble finding one. A Convertible D might do the trick as well. IM makes those as well, but so does Beck in a very limited number. Best of luck and keep us posted on what you find.
I actually have a bookmark on the Intermeccanica D !!! And now that I have the "Christmas Miracle" story to share with my wife, we have much more to discuss.

I'm thinking that maybe you really don't want to hear from actual owners, because the Christmas Miracle I referred to is that somebody has the car you had described (up until your last post), and it was for sale. This is likely as miraculous as it's going to get.
I disagree with Lane.
The chances of finding a black/tan IM speedster with A/C for sale used is one in several hundred thousand, assuming you have a lifetime to wait. The chances of finding a widebody IM speedster is 0%. To my knowledge, there has never been one built.
Carlo has a black widebody with a tan interior and A/C, and it's for sale. If this is not adequate, then I have no idea what else to say other than what I always say, "If anything besides a speedster will scratch your itch - by all means, buy that other thing". If you want to order off a menu, then you either need to order a new car, pay $75K+ and wait a few years, or head down to the Mazda store for a nice MX5.
What you are looking for is not a needle in a haystack, it's a particular needle in a pile of identical looking needles.
We’ll yeah, @Stan Galat is right if you want specific colors. Even more so if you have to have a wide body, because IM didn’t make any of those.
They have been making some as of late but not many have been built for sure.
Here's an IM flared "Speedster" (really a convertible D) with windup windows and a good dose of 911 styling. These seem to be quite rare but sell for less than other IMs. I've seen 2 for sale over last few years ($60k to replace). Anyone know how many were made and years?

Isn't this the car that gets photoshopped in front of the brick wall with the disproportioned guy sitting in the car? Now it's photoshopped in front of a building.

I'm standing by the statement. To my knowledge, IM has never built a widebody Speedster.
The 2 or 3 widebody IMs built 20 or so years ago were all "D" cars.

This is the one I know of.

I was wrong. Thanks for setting me straight.
Correct on the orange pearl one being a "D". Know Tom Buchanan in WV had one for sale awhile back. I have seen one other - can't recall the other color.
FYI, I saw one in the flesh at IM with a 6 cylinder then there was DEEMER who tried to sell one like it here again one that IM built. They are not as popular a body style... Sorry Stan...

I've got no problem admitting I was wrong, Ray - but to be pedantic, the car you linked was a "D", not a speedster. I've seen several IM "D's" in the widebody configuration, but was unaware of any Speedsters.
The car Marty linked was a widebody Speedster, which I'd never seen or heard of before.
I wasn't pointing out your error Stan at all, just kibbitzing with you. And yes, I do Stan- D corrected as it is a D, up here my mind only thinks of a D as I can never fit in a speedster .... Sorry
As to the link from Marty, Henry made that one for a guy called Jonathan and there was another but I can't remember if it was a D or an S.
But you could look here to see more, S types I just found this link Wide IM S
