Changing seats to bucket style.

I have some seats that I want to change to bucket style.

Is the fiberglass underneath the same or am I screwed?

Lots of folks will gladly trade you their old traditional speedster buckets for you seats - I wouldn't mess with trying to adapt them. While the true buckets hold you in the sear - a butt bigger than 35" will not fit comfortably -- and not on trips over 1 hour for sure.

Do you mean a butt that is attached to a 35" waist?

You probably show CMC seats. I switched my CMC seats for JPS seats that give somewhat more butt room.

The back of the JPS bottom cushion is wider than the CMC and the shell on either side of the cushion flares out more.

My waist is between 36" & 38".

This is not about waist size! This is about BUTT size! Stick to the post subject! Unfortunately, SAE does not have a convenient "cup" size for butts - some have a A some have a DD. So therefore . . .oh, never mind . . .

Nope, those are not CMC seats.

Those are VW Beetle seats with a new covering on them.

They're actually quite a bit more comfortable than "normal" Speedster seats.

Just a reminder...If the seats are raised just a hair to much! Well ones face and hair takes a beating for from the wind over the windscreen because of increased height. Carey brought this to my attention when I discussed changing seats in Merlot. Even adds butt padding in the standard buckets can be very uncomfortable. Some where this was covered in The Forum.

Mat's are stock VS seats - very comfortable for those with their own ample butt padding. Mine indeed are CMC buckets -- which make for a tight A$$. Mike took innovative approach with the seat belt/vent holes on his JPS ones - gaining both comfort and the look. Ha, since Mike and my build are neck-and-neck --- the CMC ones probably fit perfectly when we started the builds! (Eventually I'll recover a pair of 914 seats I have - Armor All on CMC ones for now though unless Mat wants to swap me?).

You know if they're too tight you could sell them on eBay as "butt molds" design to shrink your butt down to the size of the seat. You'd probably make a fortune.

I have a fiberglass bucket seat shell that I was planning on painting flat black with a bright orange circle on the bottom, painting a donut black, cutting it horizontally, and pasting half of it in the middle of the circle.

The seat shell fits so tightly on my butt, that I was thinking of bending over, buckling the seat onto my bottom and using it as a plastic strap on baboon ass . . .
