Hi Guys, I have a CMC widebody speedster on a 73' IRS chassis, with Sway-A-Way adjustable spring plates and urethane bushings. Does anyone know if there is enough room to sneak the spring plates off the end of the torsion bars to put factory rubber bushings in to get rid of this squeeking from the urethane ones? The springplate tube is 6 and 1/2" and on the widebody there is about 4 and 1/2" between the body and the end of the springplate tube. Wondering if anyone has snuck these out. If there isn't enough wiggle room I'm either going to have to cut holes in the body to clear the end of the springplate tube or lift the body. Any thoughts? Thanks J.P.

I have a standard body CMC and there was no room so I cut the old one off and cut the new one, slipped it on and glued the ends. I also changed the trailing arm bushing while I had it apart.

Hi MIKELB, That's' a pretty good solution. The bushing can't go anywhere once every thing is bolted up. Thanks for the idea and the presence of mind to take all those photos while you were doing the job! J.P.
interesting.... what type of glue did you use?
And it just so happens that Super Glue (I prefer the Locktite version) adheres in a fabulous way to the new, rubber springplate bushings. Also, if you can't cut things in a straight line (and many of us can't), Sears sells a razor cutter that can do the trick. Looks like a pair of long-jawed pliers with a razor blade on one side and a flat block on the other. Cuts a nice straight line through the new rubber bushing, then get the bushing positioned around the torsion bar, glue the bushing back together and install.
Thanks Gordon! Locktite superglue, and I know the cutting pliers you are talking about. Great info, I'm making a shopping list! J.P.
